Veach cannot trade him unless/until he is franchised and signs the tag. That could crater the entire offseason tying up 32 million of the cap. I doubt that's what happens. [Reply]

Just enjoy this last few games.
Yup. This last offseason really fucked our chances of getting value out of Jones. A reasonable extension or a trade haul was the play. Instead we got fucked by his agents and get nothing. Those agents of his fucked this up. [Reply]

I understand this. I'm saying that Veach will start talking to GMs prior to FA. Then he would plan to tag Jones and trade him the first day of the new league year and still have talks with other FAs because agents would know they have room because Jones is being traded which would open that cap space back up.
Veach doesn't have to wait till FA starts to talk trades with other GMs... [Reply]

As stated before ad Naseum, he's a LEADER, he makes the defense better, he allows Spags to "do things", he wrecks shit and there's a good chance he will have a F2F with Joshie Boy on Sunday night. Without him playing, you have ___________ [Reply]

Couldn't you say this about every tag and traded player ever? BUT it still happens because the Lions, for example, understands that a player like Jones might not pick Detroit as his last stop if a offer is equal from another team in a better location...BUT if it means signing a contract with the Lions for exactly the money he wants versus playing on the tag another year and risking injury/bad year and such he could very well sign.
A team like the Lions trade a pick or player to make this happen because they feel that Jones would not come willingly once he tests the open market.
A concept that has happened OVER AND OVER again. [Reply]

He does have to wait until the tag is signed to execute any trade negotiated. If Veach learned ANYTHING from this past offseason it should have been that you can't count on Jones or his agents to act in good faith. [Reply]
