Nzoner's Game Room>*****The Wanya Morris Thread*****
Dante84 08:43 PM 04-28-2023
More to come!

Wanya Morris was drafted with pick 92 of round 3 in the 2023 draft class. He scored a 8.35 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 215 out of 1294 OT from 1987 to 2023. https://t.co/KnzoH8NdfS pic.twitter.com/KZgxtMNcfb

Pick 95: Wanya Morris OT OU

The competition at RT isn't eye popping but it may be enough to feel comfortable to not reach. Adding another hat to the ring may be the move.

Morris has the length and natural movement the Chiefs often look for at OT. Clean up his hands & thrive pic.twitter.com/tDDr7f22NC

I thought he looked good considering he’s a rookie, was that his first time getting game snaps?

Late kick start on the 3rd play. That nbd bc it's completely correctable.
I think they'll get that ironed out

The one thing I didn't notice from the first watch is that Rice stayed in to chip before going out on his route on that 2nd play. Also, runs and screens probably helped Morris. So, these 5 plays don't say that he will be great at LT but he certainly didn't play bad at all.

Athleticism is there. Man....if they can get passable LT play from him that's such a boom.

He got absolutely smoked on the 3rd play. Beaten OBJ style.

Yeah, at first blush I was more worried than I ended up. Because when I first saw it I thought "Oh damn, he did everything right there and just got torched..."

But on further review I think you're right - he was slow off the ball. Or maybe just a little bit lazy? Or got caught guessing? The kick-slide itself was a pretty good one but he was a half a heartbeat behind Thuney and that was just enough for the DE to get to half a man and just slide right past him.

That's that 'fast loss' that you really don't want to see. And the real bummer of it is that it's the one play where I think you would've learned the most. Every other block he executed was a fairly simple one. No complicated reach/seal blocks in there to speak of - just basic shit with a pretty strong chip from Rice on the other pass pro set.

Nothing that any replacement level OT shouldn't be able to handle pretty easily.

But that play was one where he was on an island against a speed rusher who tried to beat him outside. And because he didn't execute terribly well, we didn't get a chance to see how how his actual skills/tools translate in that situation.

Not really a deal breaker but rather an opportunity lost. Would've loved to have seen how that went if he got a good jump.

Oh by the way, this is why the "Jawaan Taylor needs to be MORE legal than the next guy" crowd needs to shut the hell up. Because THAT'S what they're asking Taylor to do when the league decides they want to pick on him. That's truly all it takes to lose a rep; maybe two 10ths of a second.

Played 46 snaps.. I’m excited to see some breakdowns of his play. Didn’t seem like a noticeable drop off in pass pro, and was a destroyer of worlds in the run game.

Think we might have a starter moving forward, and that is going to be massive in the offseason

Guys I think we might have a LT of the future. This kid played really well for his first action. Absolutely destroyed DL in the running game and held his own in pass pro.

He technically gave up one sack, although Mitch Schwartz doesn't think it was his fault bc Patrick dropped too far back.

On the 2 sacks:

First one was NOT on Wanya. Got his DE to 11 yards deep, which is generally more than enough, ESPECIALLY at the 5 yard line. Great rep by him tbh. Pressure on right forced Pat out of pocket.

Second one just a bad set and punch by Jawaan on Gary.

He'll be fine at LT next year.

Sign WRs. Lots of them.
