Hehe. For years, my main machine was a 27" iMac. I switched to a Chromebook a couple of years ago. I haven't built a PC in over a decade.
All of my gaming is now on PS5.
The machine I referenced is a miniPC that's main function is to monitor the internals of my primary UPS.
I'm not much of a power user anymore. I'm getting too old and lazy for it. 🤣 [Reply]
Just found out recently that vinyl's making a comeback. Saw a bunch of turntables for sale at Wally world last week, and they actually had records for sale as well. [Reply]

Bought my daughter a record player last year. She started buying vinyl and has really enjoyed it. [Reply]

Target and similar stores are selling them too. Vinyl has been making a comeback for 5-6 years now. [Reply]

And yes, there's always the ownership issue. With games, it's becoming moot with always on and day 1 patches. You may own the game disc but if you don't sign-in and sign-ups, you will never get patches and stuff. Of course, as soon as you patch that software, your disc is obsolete and you don't own the patched copy because you opted into a digital version.
The PS5 slim still comes in disc and digital editions. Only the PS5 Pro is solely digital. [Reply]
When we were working with PlayStation, we proactively came up with ideas for marketing models for the PS5 (this was looking ahead ten years in 2013), we proposed a subscription model like the cable company does.
The hardware is no cost but leased monthly and the games are digitally streamed or downloaded either purchased or through a tiered subscription model.
Also, suggested the hardware gets added to Sony flatscreens and you turn on the subscription like other smart TV features.
We were their ad agency but just operated like an idea generator too.
at the time, downloadable games were just becoming an option and research showed a huge percentage of gamers still wanted physical media. But we were trying to figure out ways to keep retailers like Gamestop alive so the culture had a place to hang out and thrive. We proceed gift download cards etc. and a magnified trade market there like Ebay but even more barter like. [Reply]

Correct, there is a disc edition for now. Sony is moving towards the modular design of the Pro with the rest of the line. Right now you can buy a digital and add the drive separately, just like the Pro. It appears that Sony is prepared to do away with the integrated drive when supplies run out. [Reply]

They aren't quite there yet. Obviously you still have to buy the device or console but both they and Microsoft have game streaming services. I'm part of a Sony beta right now to stream games directly to my Portal without using the PS5. I haven't tried it yet though.
I'm not sure you could integrate a full console into a TV but I guarantee you they could stream a game to TV with the right app. That's precisely what my Portal is. [Reply]

Yeah. I don't mind paying for subscription like GamePass or PS Plus because you get access to multiple games. I can't stand paying a subscription just to play one game. [Reply]

How do you like the Portal. I’d like cloud streaming but don’t want to pay for PlayStation + Premium. I hope it comes to lower tiers. [Reply]

I like the Portal so far. I need more upstream bandwidth so I could use it away from home. [Reply]
