Aerosmith's Peace Out farewell tour is no more.

The band announced in a social media post Friday that its members made the "difficult, but necessary" decision to retire from touring due to 76-year-old frontman Steven Tyler's vocal cord injury, which postponed the tour in fall 2023.

"As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side," the band's statement read. "Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible."

The statement continued: "A final thank you to you - the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true."

USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for the band.

At the The Peace Out tour launch in September 2023 in Philadelphia, USA TODAY music critic Melissa Ruggieri said the Hall of Fame rockers were in top form, saying "Tyler’s holy howl remains remarkably flexible, which he verified on the gravelly choruses of “Cryin’” and the prescient “Livin’ on the Edge,” and the band’s musicianship is in peak form for this victory lap."

After only a few shows, Aerosmith pressed pause on the tour and shifted dates to 2024 after Tyler fractured his larynx during a New York gig. They'd planned on a rescheduled 40-date run starting Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh, with the tour concluding Feb. 26, 2025, in Buffalo, New York.

Fans who purchased concert tickets through Ticketmaster should have their purchases fully refunded. Those who purchased on third-party sites should reach out to those merchants.

I saw them in the late 80's for Permanent Vacation. Awesome show, still at the height of their powers. Glad I got the chance.

Regarding how much these old fuckers charge to come see them, yeah, it's pretty nuts to pay that much to see any band, let alone one that is on their way out. But that's why they charge what they do, it's the "last" chance to see them...until they come around again. You never know if they are really gonna call it quits, so people fork over the cash.

As you can tell by my sig, I'm a HUGE Alice Cooper fan. He's still touring, still releasing music and still absolutely rocks in concert. And you can see the Coop for 50 bucks still. Alice is the man. He's like 75 now, so one would think he'd be hanging it up, but he's still touring. I've seen him 11 times in my life, and thought each of the last 2 or 3 that it would be the end. He just keeps going. Just saw him last year with Motley Crue and Def Leppard. He was way better and more entertaining than Motley Crue. If you have a chance, go see the Coop. You will not regret it.

My brother and sister in law had plans to see them in Phoenix and got their email issuing their refunds. Shame!

A few years back I got to see cooper open for Motley Crue on the tour that was supposed to be Crues last. He probably put in a better performance than Crue that night. That was the first time I got to see him. Seen him a couple times since and every time he has put on really good show. He opened for Foreigner last year or maybe earlier this year and I remember seeing tickets for around 50 or 60. He is one guy that just loves performance and it shows.

Cut to SNL skit about all their songs being the same song since Dream On...

My brother and his wife and me and mine saw them on that tour also. Yes, the Coop was much better of a performance and I have seen the Crue probably 10 times since 1983. Nita Strauss was freaking AWESOME!

Never saw Aerosmith. As much as I like them and as many concerts I have been to in my lifetime I just never saw them which I regret along w/ Scorpions, Dio and Raven. Saw Dio with Black Sabbath on the "Heaven and Hell" tour though.
