Nzoner's Game Room>A Level Headed Review Week 9 2024
DenverChief 10:29 PM Yesterday
Going to try something a little different...

WR corps - I'l be honest I'm not sure if we need another WR or not - feels like it would be a nice security blanket to have another WR besides Ross/Remigio/Washington. DeAndre Hopkins really does catch everything thrown to him, the rainbow pass for 35 yards to Hopkins was disgusting and he literally caught everything Pat threw to him (8/9 86 yards 2 TD's). Worthy needs to work on his sideline awareness a couple of passes he should have had were negated by his feet being too close to the boundary. Watson really made his presence felt as well with 3 receptions on 4 targets for 43 yards.

TE's - It always seems like Kelce fumbles as he just tries a little too hard for extra yardage but his production was good tonight with 14/16 for 100 yards. I think he may be pressing a bit thinking he needs to help shoulder a bigger load. Grey was quiet tonight with only one target and no receptions. Payton Hendershot makes an appearance on the last drive with a 9 yard catch.

OL - I didn't get an opportunity to really watch what was happening on the OL but Vea is a force in the middle really collapsing the pocket and forcing Mahomes into a couple of sacks. I'll have to re-watch to get a really good idea of what specifically was happening.

ST's - pretty good for the most part but not kicking the ball out of the Endzone seemed pretty questionable at the start of the second half. Should always just kick it out of the back of the end zone. I feel like I know why they got lucky on the bounce on the previous KO that skipped in the EZ for the touchback and start at the 20. Trying to replicate that burnt us and let the Bucs start the 2nd half at the 50.

Defense - played really well despite giving up 3 TD's. I didn't feel like the problem was with the CB's this game but the Bucs had their top three receivers out of the game so that may have masked some of the deficiencies. The last drive was really sloppy defense giving up really big chunk plays...... Still personally on the Lattimore train if he is available....but if we decide to stand pat I think we will be okay.

Not sure why we got away from the running game in the first half, but Andy really switched it up in the second half and started ramming Hunt down their throats which really worked well (27 rushes for 106 yards and 1 TD). I didn't get a chance to look at the halftime rushing stats but it wasn't pretty.

OT - A steady dose of Hunt with a sprinkling of Kelce and Hopkins = WIN

Also what are Saced?

Not sure it's even close if Pacheco and Rice and Ju Ju are healthy...see, we can do that too.

Or if Veach didn't trade for DHop.

And Baker Mayfield is a straight up baller. Tip of the hat to him. Nearly beat us with his WR4/5/6 and a TE that was ranked something like 44th in the league last season. And the 26th ranked defense in the league.

Heck of a game.:-)

In that scenario, we’d have drove close enough for a Butker game winner

Not melting down but he needs to start improving in those areas.
Yep, the rookie is really showing with him, but he's had flashes and I think he'll come along well.

My bad, I forget why you're called the Tardian at times.

I'll help you out, retread.

The one thing that bothers me the most is that we went into OT on a Monday night. That's never a good thing. This would have been a good night to put the opponent away early and pull starters. But..... that's just not how we roll.

It really is time for these guys to stop playing with their fucking food.

Another wr would be nice but I think getting juju back is a good enough place holder for the rest of the season until we get Hollywood back. Hollywood would be huge. I’d love to push worthy but the game is coming way too fast for him.

Kareem is getting used a ton. Can’t wait for Pacheco to get back so we can split the backfield. But man, last year we struggled on short yardage and with Kareem I don’t feel even a little bit of anxiety.

I think our D will be fine but if there’s any hole in our defense it’s that we have games time to time where creativity using RBs and TEs and misdirection hurts us. Even when fully healthy TEs have been flat out throttling us this year.

Good points and I forgot about Juju coming back in the next couple of weeks.

Yup. He's been super mid to this point. Yes, for a rook. Last year at this point I can remember Rice seeing soft spots on zones and you could see week to week he was figuring it out.

Worthy looks lost as hell.

That felt like a vintage Patriot win.

They used to occasionally play down against worse comp and do just enough to win at the end.

I prefer to be on this side of it.

I dunno. It's fair to say that every team we play has professional athletes on it. It's also fair to say that every team we play is gunning HARD to beat the Chiefs. We're everyone's Super Bowl. It is what it is. I wish we could blow teams out, but given the injuries and the fact that we get everyone's A-Game, this is our lot.

And we can handle it.

Reminds me of Hardman so far. Really fast but more of a gadget guy. Low overall impact. Still way better than Skyy Moore. I'd rather have a slower smart WR than a fast guy who is lost.

Why to go for it:

Lining up for the two point conversion is like making the extra point, winning the toss, driving all the way to the opponents two yard line with 4th and goal.

Other than the 4th and goal part that’s a pretty good head start.

Vs risk losing the toss and what happened here.

A rookie wr that wouldn't even be playing the amount that he is if not for multiple major injuries.

Reids playbook historically has not been kind to rookie receivers.

While the sideline gaffe is inexcusable, the guy has shown ability. Mahomes had missed a few to him as well. Teams must respect his speed, and he's scored 4tds in 8 games as a rookie in Reids system.

I'd say he's coming along nicely.

Sideline drills in practice until he pukes this week, but I think he brings a lot to this offense.

Worthy has one real highlight all season, the sweep against the Ravens in week 1.

He played better overall against the Chargers.

That's it. So far he is disappointing. He needs to learn and hopefully he can. He also hasn't blown away a defender with his speed yet.
