Nzoner's Game Room>Chiefs looking for a pass rusher?
O.city 07:26 AM 07-23-2024

Emmanuel Ogbah had interest elsewhere including from the Chiefs, per source, but returns back to Dolphins where he had 24.5 sacks in last 4 seasons in Miami.

Dolphins change in DC to Anthony Weaver should provide a better fit and more opportunities for Ogbah. https://t.co/iNOKj1xvJc

Not sure if any smoke here or no?

Ogbah evidently wasn't that guy.

If you're looking at a stop-gap pass rusher to be the guy that pushes your 5th DE off the roster, that guy's gonna have to be someone who doesn't think he has a better path to snaps somewhere else.

Rasheem Green might be kinda interesting and seems to fit a Spags mold well.
I'd say all the FA pass rushers at this point are looking at that anywhere though, no?

Most, certainly.

Just evidently not Ogbah.

I'd be most intrigued by Carl Lawson, I think. I'd need to know more about what happened in 2023 but in 2022 he was still a viable starting caliber DE and at 29 he may still have another season or two left in the tank.

Lawson would be my choice as well. He kinda brings something we don't have but to be fair, that doesn't seem like something they value.

Expound.

I mean they drafted Karlaftis AND FAU. Those guys are clearly very different players. They paid for Danna, who represents something of a middle ground between the two.

It seems at this point, perhaps through Cullen's influence, they value just about any type of player that can contribute. Styles are less dispositive for them (or perhaps they're leaning into complementary skill sets).

I mean, unless your name is Clowney. Then they have no use for you at all.

Just a pure speed guy.

They've never seemed to really be interested in that.

And really, it applies pretty much everywhere at this point, doesn't it?

WR -- They drafted Rice, Worthy and Moore - three guys who couldn't be much different stylistically. At CB they drafted McDuffie and Williams/Watson. At S they've drafted Cook and Conner. At LB they drafted Bolton and Gay while paying for Tranquill.

I think we're starting to get beyond type for this team. If they think you can play, they'll bring you in and adapt to your skill set. They won't always be right (Moore, for instance, can't play), but they don't seem married to a specific decision lens at this point.

FAU is absolutely a guy who's going to be a speed rusher or a non-factor. BJ Thompson was certainly that sort of acquisition as well.

True.

Although the hope is he ends up more than just that.

This.

They're going to bring in a vet. Just not for what Ogbah received from the Phins.

I'd still like to see a veteran added because of Omenihu's situation, but I'll trust Brett Veach and Andy Reid because they have more Super Bowl titles than I have by quite a large number.
BJ isn't even at camp, heard somewhere he had another possible surgical procedure recently

Furious George will become Jared Allen without the alcoholism.

That's quite the bar.

Didn't Allen recently get elected to the Hall? Or was at least a finalist? If he didn't get in this year, he still has a heck of a shot going forward.

I'm mostly talking big sky, but compare the first two years of JA to Karlaftis and George is only slightly behind JA. Biggest difference is JA had way more solo tackles and George has more partials. JA also has a beast year his 8th season playing for MN he had 22 sacks.

JA has been nominated four times but is NOT in the HoF.

Allen's peak was pretty bonkers and actually really long.

A 7 year stretch where he racked up 101 sacks is no joke. Yeah, he had one amazing year, but even if you put that year near his average over that span, he's looking at about 95 sacks over that same period. And hey, everyone has a peak season; his just happened to challenge the single season sack record so it's not as though we can exactly pretend that didn't happen.

For perspective, DTs best 7 year stretch was 88 sacks. If you total his 10 best seasons regardless of whether or not they were consecutive, those seasons total 94 total sacks.

But yeah - the first 2 seasons are comparable. The question will be the longevity and the peak. I really don't see GK having a 20+ sack season, nor do I see him averaging about 15 sacks/yr over 7 years.
