Don't do this. Inhaling smoke from burning poison ivy, oak, etc. is very bad. I work in a hospital ED in a rural county and we see this several times a year. I know it seems like a good idea, but it's not. [Reply]

I've spent a ton of time in the woods and gotten poison ivy a bunch of time. but it's been several years since I've gotten a bad case of it. Mostly I wash the area three times with warm water and a lot of soap, and that's it. For bad cases, I usually use calamine lotion.
However, have you tried washing the rash in apple cider vinegar then applying a baking soda and water paste? That's a trick from way back; something like 40 years ago, my friend's mom doctored us up one time with that when they were out of calamine lotion, and it worked maybe better than the lotion.
Not sure if it matters, but the apple cider vinegar was unfiltered, actually made from apples from their orchard right on the farm. [Reply]

Let me add my vote to Prednisone....when I was younger I used to get it once every summer. I always called the Dr. the first day I saw it coming on and did the dose pack. It's a pain in the ass, but it sure does clear it up.
Having said that....take a look at this article about the effects of Prednisone and other drugs like it.
It reads like one of those commercials on TV where you read all the side effects and go....Geez, do I want to get anal leakage so I don't have this issue anymore. :-)
