Cowboys give CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott new contract offers

Executive vice president Stephen Jones said Saturday the Cowboys sent a new offer to receiver CeeDee Lamb’s representation Friday. The team also recently sent a new offer to Dak Prescott’s agent.

Talks are progressing for both players, and the Cowboys seem optimistic they can get both signed by the start of the regular season.

“Right now, I would characterize both conversations as upbeat,” Jones said. “We’re having good talks back and forth with both Todd [France] and Tory [Dandy]. I like where we stand.”

France, Prescott’s agent, is in talks with the Cowboys about a third contract for the quarterback. It took two years for Prescott to get his second contract, a four-year, $160 million deal that expires at the end of this season.

Prescott has all the leverage, with no-trade and no-tag clauses, so he is in control of whether he becomes a free agent in March.

“We’re talking. Make no mistake about it. We’re talking,” Owner Jerry Jones said Saturday.

Lamb, whose agent is Dandy, is not participating in training camp as he seeks a raise on the $17.9 million he is scheduled to make on his fifth-year option.

Dallas is going to put themselves in cap hell, and it's going to be glorious.

As a KC fan in Texas, just 3 hours away from Dallas, the last 5 years have been pretty awesome.

Ya gotta feel sorry for Jerry, it’s not easy to manage cap space and battle paternity suits at the same time.

The crying on local sports talk is a delight.

What? Do you even watch football? Are you saying this just because he's black?

It's fucking baffling. Reading CP you'd think Dak is some worthless fucking scrub. He routinely helms one of the best offenses in the NFL statistically. Not going to put all of the blame on him for their playoff woes either, they ran into the 49ers juggernaut in 21 and 22 and were in both games to the last possession, only for McCarthey to throw them away with some incredibly awful coaching.

I’m glad you said it because I didn’t want to be the one..

In dude’s defense, Dak did pretty recently have a pretty nasty injury he sustained on a scramble. Maybe the guy mostly watches highlights and that one stuck in his mind..?

Yeah, I had a QB debate recently involving Dak among others and didn’t mention it because he’s such a lightning rod for haters, but it’s kind of difficult to blame him entirely for the Cowboys’ lack of playoff success. He’s got 2 losses to Green Bay in which his defense has given up an average of 41 points, 2 losses to the 49ers juggernaut as you mentioned, and 1 loss to the eventual Super Bowl challenger Rams in 2018.

He’s a really good QB.

I am glad I don't have to root for him in the playoffs but he's better than Tua and Love by far
I would take him over Tua, yes.

But Dak has had far better talent than Love? I think we've seen Dak's ceiling. Yes, the Cowboys are better off signing him but I don't see Dak carrying a team.

I would rather roll the dice with Love. Yes, Love may have a lower floor but he could also have a higher ceiling.

Dak was trash against the Niners in winnable games.

I've been pretty tough on Dak, but in my more objective moments, I'll concede that he's a good QB. He's just not top-5, or elite. He's had the benefit of a lot of stability and a ton of great players and solid coaching in his supporting cast. Take away just one or two of those weapons and he falters, because he's just not the guy that has elite physical abilities to lean on or elite mental processing capabilities. His continuing struggles in the playoffs are just visual examples of his shortcomings in those areas.

He's probably a slightly better version of Alex Smith. And that's not bad, per se. It's just not top-5 or elite by any measure.

It's a joke.

Again it sure is unbelievably nice to have the best QB in the league that is willing to be paid as the 10th best while the 10th best or worst are being paid as the best. It just keeps putting Mahomes and the Chiefs above all the rest.

But he is...because that's what mediocre QBs get now. Jerry is a moron for waiting this long...it's going to cost him more every day he waits. And we know that Dak is the best they can do right now and we know that Jerry is too prideful to tank and start over in the draft.

Well he WAS the highest paid. The thing is that it just keeps resetting over and over. I don't see any end to this retardery
