Rizzo is a huge loss as he grinds tough at-bats, but most importantly, he's a sure-handed fielder. He bails out the Yankee infielders when they make a bad throw to first.

I could see his loss factoring into a key defensive play not made in the ALDS.
I’m a Yankees fan so I watched a ton of games this year. Rice isn’t bad at first, but his plate discipline is below average. Rizzo will be a huge loss.

House money at this point. Comparable to a reality where the Chiefs benched Alex in 2017 and Mahomes crushed the Titans 42-14 en route to a date in Foxboro vs the Patriots in the Divisional Round.

MLB playoffs are a massive crapshoot where mediocrities can thrive (see Arizona last year) and the Yankees haven’t been good since May, so I wouldn’t be so sure.

I hope the offense loosens up and scores some runs. They gotta realize all of the pressure is on the Yankees.

Sure feels like the offense is due to break out a bit.

I guess that you can look at that way. But I'm looking at it as the divisional is where they belong. If it wasn't for that crazy 7 game losing streak, they would have overtaken Cleveland for the division crown. They did so well all year. Then, when the division was theirs for the taking, they fell apart. If they can be the team that we saw most of the year and the past 2 games, I like their chances. Defeat the Yankees, then we can talk about house money. I know. They lost 100 games last year and that turn around has been absolutely amazing. Nobody expected the Royals to make the postseason, much less make it to the ALDS when the year started. But even by the all star break, we had started to believe. And when September arrived, don't tell me that you didn't have hopes of winning the division. I know I did. But 7 straight losses. 3 of them to the Guardians, sealed their fate to the wildcard. I'll certainly take it. But I want more. I want to see the Yankees and they're $260M payroll exit the postseason at the hands of our small market $100M payroll team. I want to see Bobby Witt Jr hit a grand slam home run to win the 3rd game and crush their souls. Then, I will join you in the talk about house money.

Yankees in the playoffs just feels so right. It was the one thing that was bittersweet about the 14 and 15 teams, didn't get a shot at the Yankees.

I get that perspective. But here’s where my skepticism may be paying off. It’s well documented in here and on GDTs that I didn’t think this team would make the playoffs (as late as late August). While I did have hope renewed for a WC spot when we were tied for the division, I was never amongst those who thought this team would make it this far. To be fair (to me, ha) even in my skepticism I made sure to post that this was a great season, playoffs or not. So to me, this is all gravy, baby!!

And, if I may, once I learned that this was the first team in HISTORY to lose 100 one year and make the playoffs in the next, I was in awe. So to me, we could’ve been beaten by the sparrows 35-2 in these last two games and I would have nothing but positive vibes about this season. But to win a playoff series? Literally a third of our lineups most nights is filled with dudes who were unemployed in August of this year. Our bullpen was a city in Gaza most of the season. And now, those dudes are channeling HDH?? Yeah man. To me, it’s all gravy now.

Who knows really?

We can feel confident that the Royals starting pitching will give them a chance.

The Royals bullpen has been incredible lately, so they can win some close games.

The offense has been so bad lately, but even bad teams get hot for stretches. If there’s such thing as being due, it’s the Royals.

The Royals may have just hit their ceiling and this is the end. That’s fine though, they lost 106 games last year.

No matter what happens, it was fun and it’s something to build on.
