Nzoner's Game Room>Mahomes bringing a WNBA team to KC?
FloridaMan88 02:59 PM Today

As WNBA expansion continues, ownership of the NWSL's KC Current — which includes Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany — has met with the WNBA and is in contention to bring the league's next franchise to Kansas City. Mahomes also co-owns the KC Royals and Sporting KC. pic.twitter.com/9kd2VXzWR3

Because they have a shitty tv deal. Caitlin clark generating millions of viewers changes that considerably. They now have a legit tv deal in place. Which in my opinion isn’t as aggressive as they could have gotten. But that’s a big piece to the profitability story.

It also helps that the league has legit sponsorship interest. Again, NIL goes a very long way with that. These players coming out of college are 100 times more media and marketing savvy than vets who’ve been in the league for a decade.

It's actually the perfect time to get into the league. They have a new TV deal coming soon and will get $200 mil/yr for that instead of $60 mil/yr they get now. If they had that deal this year they would have been at $90 mil in profit this year.

He said they were making profit. I said no they weren't, because they were operating at a $50 mil loss. I don't care what there TV deal is down the road. That doesn't mean they're profitable now.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean they've been profitable. They may be down the road, but they have never been in the green.

This. I can't think of a worse investment, but Patrick has a lot of money, I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

Yes correct. It’s about future profits. They aren’t profitable right now and it’s further testament to telling the old guard to get the fuck out of the way because they seem motivated to keep running it into the ground. But future potential is definitely intriguing

They just lost $50 mil this year lol.
I'm no accountant but given rising TV ratings & attendance & franchise values plus the TV deal for $200M, I'd think the league is looking okay.

You think he’ll name UCB as GM?

If this refers to me - I said profits in general, not exclusively in past tense. The arrow is pointed up and the players want in.

Whoa, holy shit, didn't realize that. Maybe they can make some money here. They just need to improve the product. I mean, I'm not a basketball guy, but the ads for the WNBA make it look a shit load more exciting than what it actually is, from what little of it I've watched.

I've never watched a second of women's basketball and seriously doubt I ever will but given the success of the KC Current it seems KC would be a good market for it.
As of September 2024, the Kansas City Current is valued at $182 million, making it the second most valuable team in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Mahomes is making bank on that team values.

Bet, he'd do the same in KC womens team. Anything he does turns into a winner. With Mahomes on board, I bet the WNBA would give him and KC a team. Get Clark to come here when shes a free agent. Shes a big Chiefs fan.

Separate thought....... Mahomes is well on his way to being the first NFL player to be a billionaire.

Kansas City doesn't really match up well with the demographics for the WNBA but hey worth a shot. Sports franchises are generally a safe type investment for what Mahomes would be putting in anyways.

I’ve paid a little more attention to it because there is some actually very good women’s basketball out there. The old guard is boring and clumsy and honestly brutally unwatchable. The new guard is different because I feel like they’ve tailored their games around men. They dribble and shoot like men. Caitlin clark is the most obvious example but also pay close attention to juju Watkins at usc. She’s going to have a mini Caitlin clark effect
