Nzoner's Game Room>Off Season Lets Talk Guns, Part 2
HonestChieffan 11:58 AM 01-23-2011
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Multipurpose. I have never had an AR-10 platform.
As a kid my dad had a Win Mag that was a .308 or a .300, I can't remember that we used to hunt large game with. So I am curious about the purpose of an AR with that capability.

I understand this thought - but if we assume a shotgun is good for 50 yards out, what situation would you be willing to pull the trigger beyond that distance outside of full-scale war? Not judging, just I've thought about this myself and struggle to come up with a realistic scenario.

Creedmore is a meme round that will never take off. .308 is plentiful.

I know it's new, but who can tell me about the 6mm arc?

The 6mm rem is one of my favorite rounds and has been for as long as I've been shooting. Have it in multiple bolt guns and even an encore set up and really like shooting it. The multiple combos and BC just make it a very flexible round for all kinds of fun. It not fitting in the 15 platform has always sucked.

Is the 6mm arc going to be accepted or flop?

AR10 benefits are a lot like AR 15 benefits. Lightweight, large capacity but with larger bullet calibers that will reach and have more knockdown. It will be heavier than an AR 15 and longer, but probably still a good platform if you’re wanting those calibers.

65 credmore is supposedly an insanely accurate round. There is some dork out data out there suggesting it flies flat for longer. So you can really be accurate with it. I’ve never used it but the videos I’ve seen that compared it to 308 I took away that you’d have to be really fucking good at shooting to take advantage of it. Guy I know has one (not in AR10). Since he has it I’ll venture a guess that it is a similar thing to dentists owning Porches. Technically it is a good round but most of the guys buying them and swearing by them can’t take advantage of the technical aspects.

And they’re expensive. So putting 25 rounds in an AR10 might sting a little.

If you are within 600 yards, the two rounds are basically identical. Once you start stretching farther out the Creedmoor has better ballistics.

Both are excellent rounds and both can be ordered offline easily, 308 is easier to find on the shelves. Crredmoor has taken off in long range shooting crowds because it’s the “better” version.

Dude 99.9% of people are never gonna be shooting over a 1/3rd of a mile.

Yeah. Some guys do, though. And they swear by it. Then 200 yard guys buy them because the guys that can really shoot say they’re better. Thus the Porsche driving dentist comparison.

I know a few hundred people who shoot over 1/3 of a mile weekly. So I’m not sure what your point is.

If it's your first AR-10, I'd probably recommend that you just get it chambered in .308 win. they're easier to find, cheaper, the rounds are cheaper, roughly the same ballistics out to 500 or so yards, and I believe the 65CM burns up barrels faster.

The 65CM is pretty popular (as I understand it) with the 1000m crowd. Or medium-to-large game beyond 600 yards. That's kind of rarefied company, IMO. If you're a part of that group, then, well, you'd already have bought a 65CM by now . . .

I am curious. Why do they have a need to be shooting that far consistently?
