Nzoner's Game Room>*****The Nazeeh Johnson Thread*****
Dante84 04:53 PM 04-30-2022
More to come!

Nazeeh Johnson was drafted with pick 259 of round 7 in the 2022 draft class. He scored a 9.09 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 80 out of 868 FS from 1987 to 2022. https://t.co/CCvkv5wDRX #RAS #Chiefs pic.twitter.com/XV0mCTt2bk

Spags did this a few years ago when he kept playing Sorenson ahead of Thornhill. All the evidence points to him being wrong but he's just too stubborn to see it it seems. Johnson is literally one of the worst db's in the league and Spags puts him out there like it's not an issue. Thankfully Watson is back now but lord knows what would have happened if he wasn't. His bias against Williams makes absolutely no sense and someone needs to ask him directly about it

Some folks never learn.

I guess 'massive fan club' isn't entirely accurate -- it was a small fan club that just seemed to revere the dude. I won't name names, but you couldn't get through a DB conversation this off-season without the same handful of guys saying "and we have Nazeeh Johnson coming back and the staff loved him..."

If they haven't done it, lets not assume they will.
This is the first training camp where Johnson survived the entire length from beginning to end. He had some mini-camps, but people usually don't watch those.

The positivity around Nazi was based entirely around what the coaching staff said about him and empowered him to do in those practices. Sure, the coaching staff has been wrong from time to time, but you don't go for 3 consecutive SBs without getting a lot of stuff right in player evaluation. Especially when it comes to scouting and evaluating defensive backs.

People just trusted them and got excited, that's all.

But I'd really like to know what got Williams in the doghouse.
We’ll never be able to understand some of these personnel decisions. Obviously, they see much more than us but it’s really, really hard to justify some of the things they do. This one went fine for this game, but this dude is going to get lit the hell up next week if they play him this much again.

It took a KC Star article to put him on blast a couple years ago for him to reduce Sorensen's snaps on defense so some better players could get on the field.

Nobody's going to say anything like that in Chiefs media at this point now that we're winning and the defense is still cooking from a points per game standpoint.

1000% this. Basically just breaking even instead of an improvement.

We'll see what happens next week but if we play Buffalo they totally roasted him last time and it will really be a test to see how much guts Spags has to put him out there again as much as he put him out there yesterday. I was looking at the snap count from the Steelers game and Williams out snapped Johnson because Spags knows starting him won't fly. But now Watson is back he thinks he can hide behind that and sneak up Johnson's snaps like we ain't seeing it in with our own eyes smh.

Hopefullly Spags plays the best 18 rotational defenders next game.

Nazi ain’t in that list.

I talked to a former Chief two nights ago that didn't resign here and he I asked him if he'd come back. And he said he'd love to, but that Spags didn't like him.

And I was surprised by that. And he brought up the Uche situation and said "that dude didn't get a chance because Spags just didn't like him."

So yeah, love Spags but the fact is, he does shit like this that hurts the team quite often. And there's a lot of instances of it like Sorensen and Johnson.

feel bad for joshua. i don't feel like he ever had the leash nazi has had and has done much better than him throughout his tenure here.

spags has chosen to burry a talented db for whatever fuck all reason and that's that. shits fucked up because it has probably impacted his development as well and dude ain't no spring chicken.

I don’t get why you wouldn’t just put Williams and Watson outside and let McDuffie play from the slot. I guess maybe with a team like the Texans with one legit WR in Collins, you want him to follow and that makes it hard to have two outside-only CBs out there.

Maybe against a team that uses a more predictable alignment and has better WR weapons overall you can do that.

I wanted to like Nazeeh. I really wanted us to have found another diamond in the rough, but the experiment has to end. Every now and again Spags has these inexplicable personnel decisions. I didn't get the lack of use of Uche, for example, but fine, whatever. But burying Williams for Nazeeh is just...bizarre.

I don't think Williams looked as good this year as last, but man he looks better than Johnson. He is a liability and I really hope his usage drops off.

Nazeeh then got consistently roasted against Denver and is rewarded with playing big snaps in the playoffs? What's the reason for this bs and why is he prepared to ignore the mistakes Johnson has been making all year? It's maddening to me.
It makes zero sense. Johnson is fucking terrible.

The Chiefs only gave up 12 points on offense to the Texans. Was he really that bad yesterday?

Spagnuolo needs to be overridden by the HC. Period. Otherwise they’re both sabotaging! There’s too much at stake and they could lose next week, we need the best DB’s out there, not a guy who opposing teams will relish and target repeatedly whenever he plays.

Assuming this is Willie Gay seeing as he left for chump change.

Spags is married to his system and the guys who fit it. Also because he's old as hell, 65, he has no desire to deal with an athletic freak that makes mental mistakes.

It's how we ended up keeping Teanquill instead of Gay. It's also why he doesn't like Josh Williams because he makes mental mistakes in zone at times Nazeeh does too but I'm guessing he recites things off better in whiteboard meetings than Williams does.

Spags just has no desire to alter anything for a player. He won't use a speed rusher, FAU has lost some of his natural bend because they made him gain 25lbs. Like bendy edge guys who get sacks, he hates them. He literally thinks a guy like Mike Danna has more value than Will McDonald.
