They also have no draft picks early.
Watch that video about how much money they can get back on Watson...

For Sanders maybe, but you'd also have 2 firsts the next year.

If you don't like the QB's, stock up on whoever you wanna draft. Or keep Garrett and keep being shitty.

Those things aren't mutually exclusive, you can keep Garrett and not be shitty also.

The Lions coulda kept Stafford too. And on and on.

The issue is hitting on the picks you get though.

Nah, the browns are incredibly hamstrung by watsons next 2 years of cap obligations. You simply can’t build around his contract. Get as many picks as you can, get rid of your dead money, tank this year and nab a first round qb, and do everything you can to be ready to compete as soon as you hit year 3. Their main motivation is to get rid of Deshaun’s dead money as soon as humanly possible. This was their last shot and it didn’t work.

And best way to do that is to clear out their entire cap so they can pay him off sooner and so they have a tremendously low cap in 3 years when they actually have ability to spend. They’ve been kicking the can down the road so far by now that they’re at a point of no return. No bandaid is going to fix this.

They can get some of it back in 26 if he misses time next year on the cap so that will help, but it depends on him.

So no one watched that video I'm guessing.

It depends how much time he misses next year. If he's back early ish they aren't getting much back.

Something tells me they both have a lot of reasons for him to not play early in the year.

Not playing is one thing, but if he deems he's healthy, and they wanna have him out because they wanna keep $, that's gonna be an issue.

I think the guy is laying out an absolute absolute best case scenario. But also leaving out some important details. Even if Watson misses 75% of next year (and you can bet the CBA will fight the browns if they even think about trying to fudge this) they’re still paying $70m to a quarterback they don’t want to use.

Keep in mind the browns have been charging a massive debt to their credit card for years knowing the day was coming soon. So it isn’t just Deshaun, it’s ALL the players they’ve backloaded. They have tons and tons of dead cap obligations beyond Deshaun next year too.

So yeah their top motivation is to get out of the hole as quickly as possible

Says he has a few seasons left in him.

I still think Mike Williams makes a ton of sense.

He’s a great downfield guy, low cost, available and ready to revive his career in KC.
