If you don't like the QB's, stock up on whoever you wanna draft. Or keep Garrett and keep being shitty.
Nah, the browns are incredibly hamstrung by watsons next 2 years of cap obligations. You simply can’t build around his contract. Get as many picks as you can, get rid of your dead money, tank this year and nab a first round qb, and do everything you can to be ready to compete as soon as you hit year 3. Their main motivation is to get rid of Deshaun’s dead money as soon as humanly possible. This was their last shot and it didn’t work.
And best way to do that is to clear out their entire cap so they can pay him off sooner and so they have a tremendously low cap in 3 years when they actually have ability to spend. They’ve been kicking the can down the road so far by now that they’re at a point of no return. No bandaid is going to fix this. [Reply]

So no one watched that video I'm guessing. [Reply]

I think the guy is laying out an absolute absolute best case scenario. But also leaving out some important details. Even if Watson misses 75% of next year (and you can bet the CBA will fight the browns if they even think about trying to fudge this) they’re still paying $70m to a quarterback they don’t want to use.
Keep in mind the browns have been charging a massive debt to their credit card for years knowing the day was coming soon. So it isn’t just Deshaun, it’s ALL the players they’ve backloaded. They have tons and tons of dead cap obligations beyond Deshaun next year too.
So yeah their top motivation is to get out of the hole as quickly as possible [Reply]
