.until we figure out how to travel at near light speed, we just can't get to these places.
Or we figure out how to bend space on itself.....
Or figure out if we can even survive a prolonged journey in space without having our brains turned to Swiss cheese:
Rumor was right. They found a star with 7 Earth-sized planets. 3 of those are in the Goldilocks zone. The habitable planets are pretty close together. One or more are actually tidally locked. That's cool...
Sounds like the gravity effects in the system are pretty whacky. The planets are so close that they pull on each other constantly, making their orbits all wavy and weird. Planets will pull close to each other when they're close in orbit.
Just said they've found thousands of potential exoplanets in the Goldilocks zones of their parent stars. Crazy. [Reply]

We need to get to where we can travel faster than the speed of light
This is why we need to get going now. Throw some stuff in a suitcase and let's go.
And if they're close enough that their orbits are wacky, I wonder if they'll eventually collide. If you're an intelligent being on one of those planets, that's a strong impetus to develop space travel if you know for sure that a planet is going to hit you at some point. [Reply]

I'm ready. But I gotta make a bathroom stop first. [Reply]

They're probably pointing a telescope at our own solar system right now, saying "Man, that planet is perfectly in the zone with no other planets around. And it has water and everything. Even a moon. Wish we lived there." [Reply]

Maybe they're even on their way now, their giant bone-crushing mandibles clacking together in excitement and their poisonous scorpion tails flicking back and forth in anticipation. [Reply]
