Nzoner's Game Room>Space Exploration megathread
DaFace 09:40 AM 06-01-2014
Since a number of cool things are happening in space exploration these days, we'll widen the scope of this thread a smidge. Conversation about all things space exploration are welcome, whether it be from NASA, SpaceX, ULA, Blue Origin, or anyone else. Chances are most of the discussion will still be about SpaceX since they love to make things public and fun, but nothing's off limits. I'll eventually get around to modifying the OP to include resources for other companies too, but in the meantime, feel free to post any cool stuff you run across.

I'm tentatively planning on taking the day off, though I suspect that there's a good chance of a scrub the first time they try.

For some useless fun, SpaceX has put up a simulator for what it's like to dock Dragon to ISS.

Routine, but a little weird considering what's going on.

They've had them in a kind of soft-quarantine for about a month already (avoiding contact with anyone not absolutely necessary, masks and PPE, etc.).

Scheduled my time off today. NASA coverage starts at 8:15MT for a 12:33MT launch.

The Crew Dragon has arrived to Launch Complex 39A!

This spacecraft will carry @AstroBehnken and @Astro_Doug to the @Space_Station when it launches atop a @SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on May 27, at 4:33 p.m. ET: https://t.co/yvfOCG49U8 pic.twitter.com/Tdtdaucdef

Looks like they are postponing Starlink 7 until after DM2. Not enough available ASDS with JRTI currently getting upgraded.

How do you get into the Space Force?

I'm reading this as a "WTF did you say?" so forgive me if I'm misinterpreting.

To translate, though, they only have one functional drone ship (autonomous spaceport drone ship - ASDS) in the Atlantic because one of the two (Just Read the Instructions - JRTI) is under maintenance.

So the gist is that they were supposed to be doing a Starlink launch last weekend, but it got delayed due to the tropical storm. That pushes it back close enough to the crew launch (Demo Mission 2 - DM2) that the other drone ship (Of Course I Still Love You - OCISLY) couldn't support both missions. As a result, they pushed back the Starlink launch until after they fly crew.

This shit does get super acronym-y sometimes. There's a glossary in the OP fwiw. This gave me a new one to add. :-)
