You aren't wrong. The religious teachings and guidance from the pope do trend that way. On the flip side I think a lot of my family saw Democrats as being more "charitable/help other people". If you want to you can kinda look at either party in whatever light you want and find a way to make it work with your particular flavor of Catholicism.
