Nzoner's Game Room>Space Exploration megathread
DaFace 09:40 AM 06-01-2014
Since a number of cool things are happening in space exploration these days, we'll widen the scope of this thread a smidge. Conversation about all things space exploration are welcome, whether it be from NASA, SpaceX, ULA, Blue Origin, or anyone else. Chances are most of the discussion will still be about SpaceX since they love to make things public and fun, but nothing's off limits. I'll eventually get around to modifying the OP to include resources for other companies too, but in the meantime, feel free to post any cool stuff you run across.

Love the way the solar panels look on the trunk.

Maybe. But it looks like there are gaps between the booster and the trunk? They aren't using a second stage on this one, right?

There's not an active second stage - no - but there's a spacer of sorts from what I can tell. On the outside it looks just like the demo launch.

The black band is the top of the booster itself.

Ah, much better! I guess they were just shadows.

Sorry - to clarify, that photo is from the Demo 1 launch.

Apparently it's a fully loaded second stage with a mass simulator instead of an operational engine. Fireball time? :-)

Full-size Falcon 9 ,no second stage engine since the "failure" will take place before the second stage would've started. Fourth and last trip for this Falcon 9 rocket. RIP(ieces)

It's kind of depressing now that we've gotten used to them always landing the boosters. Poor B1046. He's served well.

I know right? Was the first operational Block 5 I read. Oh well. Fireball is supposed to be be between 83 and 100 seconds at MaxQ. Don't blink.

Hopefully back on tomorrow morning. At least I'm on the east coast, so it won't seem quite so early!
