A lot to recommend it, but it kind of fizzles out at the end.
It's vintage Shane Black, if you like vintage Shane Black. Excellent use of violence [if you see it or are familiar with Shane, you know what I mean].
Worth a rental or watch on streaming. I can see where people called it an overlooked gem. But I can also see why it was overlooked. It's offbeat to begin with, and like I said it kind of fizzles it's promise overall. Don't take that as a severe rebuke, more of a 'aww, this could have been even more.'
It has one of the funniest bits of physical comedy in the scene referenced in spoilers below. Also, has a great homage to classic physical comedy, again spoilered.
Spoiler!
Funniest - the bathroom scene where Crowe and Gosling first meet back up after Crowe broke Gosling's arm. Great physical comedy from Gosling trying to juggle covering his dick with a magazine, open the stall door and get his gun with one arm in a cast.
Homage - 'drunk' Gosling channeling Lou Costello's stuttering exclamations when he finds himself sitting next to a dead body in the woods.
lol, this reminds me of this night I went to a Mizzou basketball game at Kemper with my cousins, there were a shit load of these mascots wandering around with a bunch of promotional gimmick bullshit like Wonderbread etc. My cousin leans and whispers in my ear "They are really FBI Agents." [Reply]

Best movie Ive seen a the theatre in a long time! Plot, acting, soundtrack all freaking great. It takes a lot to get me to theatre. Solid fick! [Reply]
Watched Grave of the Fireflies this weekend for the first time. It was a beautiful film, like most Studio Ghilbi films, but definitely not a cheery movie. My Neighbor Totoro it was not. [Reply]
Finally caught Star Trek Beyond at the theater this weekend. Wow. I didn't think it could be worse than STD. Boy was I wrong. Absolute pile of shit. The stupid hologram, clone, transporter, people carrier toy of Jala was almost as bad as the magical raise the dead blood from STD. The motorcycle scenes were idiotic, the CGI'd fight scenes were jarring, the beginning scenes were so dark as to be unwatchable, and the humor was uninspired and bland. Ugh. [Reply]
Phantasm: Ravager isn't great, but in a way, its...um...not greatness and its confusing ending are kind of appropriate for the series. Very weak special effects fwiw. Essential viewing for fans of the series. Skippable for everyone else.
Also watched:
The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960)
Scarecrows (1988)
The Monster of Piedras Blancas (1959)
I vampiri (1957)
Shark Exorcist 2015
The Dead Pit 1989
Lies 1985
Hercules, Samson & Ulysses 1963
The Borrower1991
Hell Night (1981)
The Initiation 1984
And last, but not least, the slasher classic "Silent Night, Deadly Night"
I'd need to do some research on truthiness, but the business side seems oversold. That's just me being a nerd. Watch the movie. It's well done. [Reply]
I thought Split was enjoyable but generally only because of McAvoy's performance.
Spoiler!
I liked the film as a psychological thriller but then it devolved into a monster slasher during the third act. The 'reveal' was also weak. I thought it would be better as a stand alone movie.
