What I don't understand is why they would move on from Kingsley after essentially only half a season of playing at LT. You don't spend a pick that high and just walk after a few games
Again, disclaimer that Veach could be purposefully obscuring the plan, but he seemed to be pretty candid about both LT being the priority this off season along with DL AND Suamataias potential inside.
Which, yeah, I really don't get it either. At least give him another year of development at OT and see if you can at least salvage him at RT when Taylor leaves. Putting him inside now when there won't be a starting job available for at least a year just doesn't make sense to me. [Reply]

Veach probably has 20 contingency plans and pivots he's already mapped out with all of the possible moves.
Reading too much into anything this time of year is foolhardy.
But IF they want to do this, they can. And the reality is that anyone other than Smith that's available will be a downgrade . [Reply]

Yup and if you get serviceable play out of Kingsley or DJ you're already much better off. Plus you get maybe a healthy Pacheco Back, A top 10-15 WR back, and maybe things click with Wiley. A decent free agent or 2, hit on some draft picks you have a great shot at winning it again. They aren't going to play that bad again everyone needs to relax we ain't far off at all [Reply]

Nobody is going to be as good as Smith just on talent. But being able to plug in a marginally worse player still on his rookie contract to spend what may end up being over 20 million elsewhere is preferable to me at least. Doesn't seem like it's the path the Chiefs are going though, so oh well. [Reply]

Maybe that's the plan. We don't know.
All I'm saying is let's not freak out in February. [Reply]
I have no idea what he's going to do, and I'm sure he's got a line in the sand with Smith as well as everyone else, but it looks like a fairly crap FA class other than maybe two LT's.
It's a crap draft for LT's.
It's a GREAT draft for DL.
It's a GREAT draft for RB.
So I wouldn't be surprised if Veach says FUCK THIS and just signs Smith AND Jackson and takes his chances in the draft for defense and RB. It's a great draft to do exactly that.
But he never does what I thought he was going to do, so who knows? [Reply]

Paying a RG who got dominated in the Super Bowl $20+ million AAV, next to one of the most underachieving RT’s in the league… who is also making $20+ million AAV.
Ho-lee sheeetttt. Imagine if this happened. The burst on CP would be absolutely incredible :-)
Chiefs GM Brett Veach believes the team can retain both Trey Smith and Nick Bolton in free agency. How realistic is that? @NFLonCBSpic.twitter.com/BCsfzq2qb6
he's not going to say he isn't interested in bringing anyone back when he's asked. That wouldn't be a good look and could potentially lower morale. [Reply]
