#Chiefs CB Jaylen Watson, one of their emerging young players on defense, suffered a fractured ankle in Sunday’s win over the #49ers, sources say.
He’ll have more imaging done today to determine if a return this season is possible. But tough reality for an up-and-coming corner. pic.twitter.com/86J6M58zqm

Him already being in the building is very encouraging. It's just a matter of how far along the healing process is he and when will he be allowed to do physical work on the treadmill and practice field etc. He's been making hints and this is just another one. [Reply]

So fascinating think I learned during my own ankle rehab.
You have two muscles in your calf. the one you see on the outside and one that's almost like the 'tender' in a chicken breast that's buried underneath the big one.
That smaller one really does a lot that you don't realize and it tends to atrophy fairly quickly.
I think Watson's return will come down to how quickly he can build back the strength in his lower leg/calf after having it mostly immobilized for as long as he has.
I'm betting by any 'normal' standard he's healed at this point. He probably walks around on it with no trouble. But to get that back into playing shape, he's gonna have to get strength back in there. That's just gonna take a little time.
(That photo doesn't inspire a ton of confidence, to be honest. Left calf seems quite a bit smaller). [Reply]

He's been walking around for a while now according to pictures on his IG. And if you then add on the hints he's been making I think he might be right on schedule to make it back for the playoffs as the original reports suggest.
BTW ya'll if you look closely on Jaylen's right calf you'll see dude has the Chiefs Arrowhead tattoo there. [Reply]

It’s not easy coming back from this so quickly. And even so will he be who he was before so soon?
He's going through the process. An early return could see him back by the Denver game. A normal return would be the divisional round onwards. He's grinding hard by all account so let's just hope for the best. [Reply]
I’m confused. Wouldn’t players be required to be in the facility even when injured?
They’re still under contract and you’d think the team would want their own trainers to keep tabs on their recovery. Not to mention have them sitting in on positional meetings to stay up-to-date on game day operations and shit. [Reply]

I noticed the calf difference as well, but didn't know what that meant in terms of how far away he is. [Reply]

Calves take a long long time to build, they don't go away after 10-12 weeks of non activity. I doubt the real difference is close to what it looked like in that photo.
I had to take close to 4 months total off to recover from a hamstring tendon tear, probably the least effected part of my legs were my calves.
Saw a video on youtube from "show me football" and they say Mitch Holthus said "The Chiefs are getting back Hollywood Brown and maybe Jaylen Watson". He's inside the organisation so if he's saying there's a chance then you can bank on it. [Reply]

It was easily the most aggravating part of my rehab and frankly pretty shocking.
It took month to as much as do a toe raise on my right foot. And for the first couple of weeks, I could use both feet to elevate and then maybe hold 1-2 seconds on the right foot after raising my left leg.
It just atrophied so damn quickly. That muscle gets a ton of work just living day to day and it doesn't take much time at all for it to waste away if you're not using it. [Reply]
