I remember everyone used to love Andrew Luck lighting up DBs when he’d throw a pick in college. It’s fun for a bit, but fucking stupid.
Throw a pick? Just jog off the field. Nothing good comes from getting involved. Every defensive player wants a shot at blowing up Mahomes there.
If it’s the Super Bowl and you threw a pick but were up 6 or less late? Sure go for the tackle. Any other scenario, jog off the field. No one will think less of you. [Reply]

Again, just a poor decision with an awful outcome.
Eyes closed, back of his head/neck exposed.
A knee to the back of the helmet probably puts him in concussion protocol and it was nothing but blind luck that it didn't happen.
About the best you can say of what he did there is "Hey, at least he didn't lead with his throwing shoulder..."
I mean c'mon Pat - if you're gonna go out there blindly putting yourself (and evidently your teammates) in harms way, maybe just sit it out.
I've seen kickers make better plays on ballcarriers than that. It was just a reckless and silly play that led directly to injury.
Can the KIND of injury that took place there be directly foreseen? Nah, not really. But is the fact that there was an injury on that play even remotely surprising? Not at all - you throw your body into a pile with little technique and without even seeing what you're hitting, weird shit is gonna happen. It could've easily been Mahomes that got knocked out for awhile there. [Reply]

I was thinking more along the lines of injuring himself trying to make the tackle.:-)
Just an all-around shit play in Chief's history. In fact, I can't think of a worse one. I know shit happens, but special shit happened on that play. :-)
Jamaal Charles blowing out his knee stepping on a 1st down marker is a greater shit outcome.
Dee Ford lining up offsides is a greater vapor lock and shit execution.

Should be good and healthy by then I guess. No chance of rushing him back.

If he's out for the season it makes sense to try and get all the legal stuff out of the way ASAP to get the suspension in when he's injured this year. Then get a quack doctor to assess him to say he's available for selection and if need be, get grey shorts guy to act as his stunt double in training. [Reply]

Sure you can.
We ask if of players all the time.
Think of ballcarriers in the pile. Kelce talks about it all the time - when they end up in a scrum, they spend the last part of just about every play trying to get to the ground. They COULD fight for another yard, but not at the risk of a fumble or an injury.
They know the smart play is to live to fight another play. And you hear guys say it after fumbles a lot "Yeah - I needed to be smarter there and know when to get down..."
WRs go out of bounds instead of lowering their shoulder for another half yard all the time. Tory Holt would go down in the middle of the field rather than get blown apart on his way to a HoF caliber career.
Yeah, these guys know when to fish and when to cut bait. And they do it game after game after game. And it's not 'business decisions' but rather an acknowledgement that they're needed for the next play, drive, game, etc...
And Pats the best at that. There's a reason his rushing YPG increases in the post-season. He knows when we need him to do that sort of stuff and when it's best to fight another day. [Reply]
Jesus Christ people, Rice is not going to get suspended for 8 fucking games.
Frankly I'll be surprised if he's suspended for 4. If the NFL starts suspending players who get in traffic accidents everyone is going to get suspended. I don't think they will want to go down this road. This is all created by "NFL insiders" who are just looking for clicks. [Reply]
