Nzoner's Game Room>2024 MLB Playoffs Thread (non-Royals)
SHOWTIME 05:38 PM 09-29-2024

Who's winning it this year?

This is a thread for non-Royal playoff games since I assume there will be a separate one for the Royals…

There was nothing panicky about it. Those bean counter clowns in the front office planned it pre-game and were so confident in the efficacy of their plan that nothing Berrios did in those first 3 innings would have changed it.

The Jays' FO is emblematic of what analytics has done to the game of baseball more than perhaps any other team.

I guess that's what they called, it was very close.

And that's why old school guys like Terry Francona and Bruce Bochy get rehired because some in baseball still appreciate having some feel in the dugout instead of an all-numbers approach.

The Jays' FO sees no benefit in such managers (which is why they got rid of John Gibbons as quickly as they could). Their last two managers have been nothing more than errand boys who do what they are told and follow the pre-game plans the FO sets out for them. In-game context or feel literally couldn't matter.

WOW KERRY CARPENTER 3-RUN DONG OFF CLASE

Carpenter just blasted a 3-run HR in the top of the 9th.

I can't believe that. A 3-run bomb off Clase in the 9th. Tigers take the lead. That's almost unbelievable.

Incredible. An absolutely unstoppable pitcher and he might as well have put that pitch on a tee

That's the first three-run homer Emmanuel Clase has ever allowed in the big leagues.

I had to look the stats on that HR up. Clase only allowed 2 homers this year and they both were solo shots. One was with a 3 run lead and the other he had a 4 run lead.

Actually the better stat is Clase allowed 5 ER the entire season. Just gave up 3 on that one pitch.

Kerry Carpenter off Emmanuel Clase. He allowed five earned runs in six months during the regular season. He allowed three earned runs on this pitch, which came with two outs and two strikes. The biggest swing for Detroit in a decade. pic.twitter.com/yH7pjarcWP

There’s a screen cap of Kerry carpenter talking on the top step covering his mouth. Was clase also tipping pitches?

Or would that even matter considering the meatball of a hanging slider clase served up

Tigers win. The problem Cleveland faces now is if they don't win the next two they have to play game 5 against Skubal.
