You an use as small as a .270 I've killed several with that. My grandpa used to poach them in the depression with a .243 bullet placement is important of course. They are tough as hell. Unfortunately, the larger tenants are now requesting hunting rights with their cash rent bids. They use the "dealing with ruts and trespassers" line and the land owners fold. They then turn around and lease their scattered 5-7k acres out to a whole hunting group from out of state. Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, you name it, the plates are here. Of course, they conveniently leave their owned ground out of the hunting lease. I couldn't begin to count the number of guys and kids who have lost their spot in the last 2 years. The groups are big enough they're renting multiple houses for the month.
