You carry a sidearm while hunting for personal protection, not to mitigate a 40-yard "clean" shot that missed all vitals.
Putting aside the presumed illegality of shooting a deer with a sidearm during archery season (depending on your state), I would hope the lesson is that consistent, ethical 40-yard archery shots require above-average skill, and if you're not at that level, then the truly ethical action is not to take the shot in the first place. Been extremely slow on the mature buck front this year, but 17 turkeys just cruised by my stand. Wich is very exciting, haven’t had turkeys on the property for about 10 years other that a spotting of a hen and chicks two years ago. [Reply]

awesome stuff. 10 years ago I was covered up in turkey. I run 3 cell cams and 2 reconyx and have had one bird on camera since April. Our bird numbers in Missouri has some areas in a free fall. MDC knows it but cant determine cause and are very closed mouth about it. [Reply]

On our place, the bobcats followed the turkeys and pretty much took care of them. There are a couple small groups yet, but nothing like there was a couple years after we saw the first one.
Might look out for bobcats and get to trapping them if you see them. [Reply]
