Nzoner's Game Room>Stadium Watch 2024 -Jackson County Residents: How Are You Voting?
Pablo 08:28 AM 03-28-2024
Vote in this poll if you actually live in Jackson county.

We've all shared our opinions in the other thread. But who gives a shit what somebody in Platte County or Johnson County or Phoenix or NYC thinks. We're all just noise.

[QUOTE=philfree;17601087]The people that allow the Chiefs to walk to a different state should have to where a big Chiefs Red L on their forehead for the rest of their lifes. $150.00 a year each? And that probably doesn't account for the tax revenue collected from people from out of the county that come to see the Chiefs and Royals.

Really, if you’re you’re going to criticize..

You think the 3/8 cent tax will remedy this? If it’s that bad then there are far worse things going on and that tax or lack there of won’t make things better.

Let’s not pretend that eliminating the 3/8 cent tax would result in either of those being built.

Now a tax I was referring to is a property tax. A portion of that tax goes to funding schools that are zoned in that area. Should someone who has no children or children that do not go to those schools be forced to fund them without a say in it? If so, why?
That's just it. At worst, the majority of the residents apparently do not feel they would get enough of a benefit from it. At best, they just didn't like the Royals side of it.

People comparing the votes and funding of a need, public schools, to a want, private sports, and targeting the voters who prioritize those two things as they should be is asinine. They vote on each as they see fit and as they come along. Unless they're willing to foot the bill non locals should probably keep their traps shut about the locals making their own area's financial decisions, especially considering they haven't even cleaned up the property tax debacle, scandal, ineptitude, whatever you want to call it. If you want a bigger middle finger the next time around, everyone should keep talking smack to the residents about how they should be spending their money.

I don't really understand why people would even expect a county to compete with a state at this point either. Especially, when those resident can just drive a few miles and get the same experience for free. Kansas didn't even think about trying to ram the funding down a single county's throat, and for good reason.

I'm just kinda wondering why if the stadiums are such great revenue streams for the JaCo then why is it in such bad shape? Why should we continue to pay for something that doesn't have a good return? We would be better off putting the money into the stock market.
Is green bay thriving? Buffalo? Detroit? Cleveland? Maybe if a city isn't already a major tourist destination then perhaps a stadium doesn't help that much?

It's a tough to hear how great the stadiums are for the city when you take a look around.

What exactly do you think Kansas City would look like right now if there wasn't a stadium tax? You must think it would be a modern utopia. What type of flying cars do you think we'd have if we had saved that 3/8 cent tax on the stadiums?

With zero pro sports in town we would get so much more yard work done!

Arrowhead may be seen as something their tax money got right. As time changes both stadium are too much an expense. The last vote may have said as much

Out of area fans come to games as well. KC might not be on the bucket list for most people to visit, but by taking away two of their three professional sports teams, there is even less incentive for them to come. The ROI on what was spent on the stadiums from when they were built until now most likely exceeds the money spent building them.

Now why are they in bad shape and not generating more revenue? No clue. If the city/county own them then that would be a question that they would be better answering. I can say that governments at all levels mismanage funds and resources all the time. Might as well keep a tax that’s been around for a long time to upgrade stadiums that at least provide a distraction and civic pride to the residents. I might feel differently if they were introducing a new tax, but they aren’t.

No idea.

But one thing I know for sure is that the stadiums do not bring in this unlimited wealth as some want to believe.
