Has anyone else started watching this show? I am a sucker for this kind of thing and so far it has been very interesting. You can watch the first two episodes in the link below. Since this was filmed over the summer, if any of you have figured out what happens please use spoilers for anything that hasn't aired yet.
For those who aren't familiar, very briefly, it is about an island on the eastern shore of Canada that is rumored to have buried treasure from possibly the Knights Templar dating back to the 1300s. In 1795 an apparent secret hiding space was discovered in which levels of wooden planks were buried every 10 feet. Digging down around a hundred feet, they found some gold link chain and a few other things. Eventually they dug to a point that causes the hold to be flooded by sea water as if it was some sort of boobie trap, which is believed to come from some type of tube that is out in the ocean.
Another person in the 1970s dug alongside the original hole but also got his hole flooded by sea water. These guys now who are on the show purchased most of the island and are trying to solve the mystery with help from the guys who dug their own hole in the 1970s. The hole curse aspect is just kind of meh and I don't really pay attention to it, but I am sure the producers just like the added element it presents. The mystery and adventure is really interesting. It is nice to see a show like this that is actually producing some results so far. [Reply]

I hear ya. I read about Oak Island years ago, and the question I always asked is:
If someone went to that much trouble to hide something, and the way they hid it made it pretty much impossible to dig up, even for the people that put it there, then it seems likely it wasn't treasure that could be used to profit. More likely it was something they considered dangerous as hell that needed to kept from mankind for all eternity.
It's a great mystery, but shitty reality TV. Might as well be the show about bigfoot, because they have about the same chance of finding something. [Reply]

What I don't understand is, it really shouldn't be impossible to dig up. You'd think they could block off the water. I really think if anything was ever down there, someone got it already and kept quiet so they could A)keep it all for themselves and/or B)keep the legend alive for future profit. Either that or there isn't shit down there and there never was. The issue I have with it is that a lot of the legend is anecdotal. Where is the original stone with the strange letters carved on it? What about the slabs of wood and whatever that they found at certain intervals? Surely those were kept? I feel there could be a lot of bullshit involved in this. [Reply]

I imagine whatever has happened is not going to be revealed or leaked and that contracts are written accordingly to where the network must be the outlet letting us know what has happened.
My main beef with the show is that since it is part of a series with a certain amount of episodes lined up and who knows how many seasons, they will probably drag it out as long as possible. [Reply]

Could be. I think announcing something found would actually improve the ratings. [Reply]

That is true. I was thinking more along the lines of someone on the island saying something they shouldn't, whereas it sounds like you are suggesting the people with the rights tease us and let us know something was found. Either way I don't think not hearing anything is an indicator of what happened. [Reply]

My main beef with the show is they aren't ever going to find shit.
If they ever do find shit, which they won't, I would watch the 2 hour history channel documentary special about it.
It's exactly like the bigfoot show. Or the ghost hunter show. Or the ancient fucking aliens show. [Reply]
