Nzoner's Game Room>Are we worried about our offense?
mr. tegu 07:15 PM 09-15-2024
Being only marginally better than last season? Worthy likely has a higher ceiling and more potential than Hardman but he is unlikely, at least for now, to be a 6-8 target a game guy as an option on the majority of passing plays. Rice is better than Rice last season so that's good. Kelce is probably worst though.

But mostly what I’m fearful about is that losing Brown is going to be a major impediment to the offense being noticeably better than last season. He was likely big in our schemes and philosophy. I know we typically struggle vs the Bengals but as of right now I'm not sure what would make me confident we dramatically improve over last season.

What does everyone think? How can we ensure the significant improvement over last season that it seems we might need?

This goes back to Brown. Reading through it seems like everything that would improve the offense is the area of the field and route concepts Brown would have been occupying.

Yea works great...until your protection sucks or you miss one and now it's 2 and 10 and all your first down plays don't work.

I think the reason teams aren't taking deep shots is because getting behind the chains is a death sentence against these defensive calls and for most teams a 40 yard in the air pass is a low percentage play.

Thankfully there's still time.

Both for Worthy to develop and for Reid to get the most out of him.

I'd like that just from the standpoint that it seems like the game is moving real quick for Wiley underneath.

Just let him go make a play once or twice to get some confidence.

I haven't fired up any All-22 but I assumed Worthy's route tree would be very much the Mecole one where he is running deep crossers half the time. Haven't seen that yet, probably because of the schemes they have faced.

Not if they're playing deep as you suggested. And not if you have him playing off the LOS. A LBer is likely going to struggle to get hands on him at all.

Definitely, I’m worried.
Mahomes can obviously play better and presumably will, but right now that’s a concern. In the first game, he missed two passes to running backs. He seems to be impatient. He is making bad judgement calls and throwing interceptions more than usual. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t want any other QB. But his game needs to improve to be closer to what he normally does.

Andy needs to improve his playcalling. I don’t understand why it’s so much of a challenge for us to score when we’re inside the 10 yard line. we seem to stay vanilla. We always see Andy is one of our great strengths, but this year that hasn’t been the case.

Pacheco has been incredibly important to this team and it’s success. It remains to be seen how steel and hunt will make up for his absence.

Despite the brown injury, and the need for worthy to develop, I think WR room is definitely better than last year but not as much better as we had hoped. AND I EXPECT KELSEY TO RETURN TO FORM, BUT MAYBE OLD AGE HAS FINALLY HIT . WE WILL SEE.

If we have another bad game at LT, I think we need to bring in a veteran as a stopgap measure.

So there are a lot of concerns our offence. but we are still scoring points and winning games .

And even worse our defence is getting destroyed by TEs.

Thank goodness luck has been on our side as we have a toe and a flag to think for our 2-0 record. and luck it’s always important. So let’s hope it stays with us.

Hopefully, we finally have a decisive win against Atlanta.

Oh hey look Zac Taylor utilizing 12 personnel to get matchup problems to TE’s exploiting the open space in zone coverage in cover 2

Developing a great changeup doesn't mean they need to stop leaning on the fastball.

Scissors combo frontside, hi-lo backside to attack C2. QB reads the open of the MIKE. If he opens to take the dig, bender by 16 is open, vice versa. Look how quick 9s eyes are off the Mike. pic.twitter.com/CEye43wZVa

12p look forces the nickel to fit the C gap which puts him inside. Motion by Chase into flat forces them to bump over a zone, TE pushes up and in so Ni bumps that to MLB who can't match the out-break & nickel can't help bc of Chase. Nickel is in a blender. pic.twitter.com/Te4AdcRs8t

12 personnel has changed this offense. I'm not sure what about their motion response causes Burrow to check this, but you can see how the Tight Ends allow Cincinnati to access both heavy under-center run and their normal pass game at the same time. They get KC into base. pic.twitter.com/ZYcEcdi4Sw

Love Andy to death but he was badly outcoached last Sunday. This is how we should be attacking cover 2

They're not playing cover 2 though. Look at the CBs. They're not passing anything off.

Looks more like cover 4 which would be why they're killing us in that vacated zone.

Don't discount that Andy and Spags like to hold stuff back and flip the script gameplan wise in the playoffs if they can

It's a proven formula that they're using every year at this point
