Bucky Brooks: “Baker Mayfield was riding in a 6 series Mercedes at OU. Elite talent everywhere, pro style OL and perfect scheme. All he had to do is make simple reads to players who win their matchups the majority of the time.

Maybe teams are seeing something they don't like from this class of QBs?
I think teams really like these QBs, just not top 10 pick like... drafting one high like that just because you need a QB, doesn't make sense if you need so much at other places. [Reply]

Just kind of flies in the face of this being an all time great QB class out of college. Theres not even 1 consensus must have guy like Luck and RG3 in 2012. [Reply]

Neither does paying what it’s going to take to get Cousins. [Reply]

There are no sure things in this class, but there are a handful of QB's that have really high ceilings.
Apart from Mahomes, the perception last year was that the top QB's didn't have the upside that Darnold, Rosen, and Allen have, and Mahomes' floor is much lower than Darnold, Rosen, and Mayfield's. [Reply]

Kind of a pick your poison situation. Either spend tons on money on the QB and hope you can fill your holes in the draft, or try to fill the holes in FA and hope a QB you like makes it to 5. Neither are all that ideal but that's the business of finding a franchise guy. [Reply]

Meh. I really don't see how Mahomes floor is so much lower than the other guys. Only thing is if he just turns the ball over at an incredibly high rate, because all of his other intangibles seem to be progressing as scheduled. [Reply]

I was commenting on what the perception was before the draft. [Reply]

Oh, I gotcha. Yeah, I don't think he'd have been very successful without some time to sit and learn how to run an NFL offense. Luckily he got drafted by the absolute best team for what he needed. [Reply]

And the Chiefs have a new wave of youth already in place. Hill and Hunt are stars, Jones is an above average DL and Ragland/Fuller as players who have shown on the field that they can be very good. All young players on rookie contracts...and that’s not counting Pat who is currently TBD.
Denver has Gotsis and Simmons as proven players that will be 25 or tougher on opening day. Denver is an old team. [Reply]

You forgot Ray and Barrett.
Many people thought Simmons and Gotsis were busts because they weren't starters in 2016. Don't be surprised if DeMarcus Walker, Carlos Henderson, Jake Butt, and Brendan Langley make a similar jump in their second year. [Reply]
