At this point, I think it would take the Chiefs finishing 0-2 and Mahomes throwing 5-6 picks for him to lose it. He's that far ahead and rightfully so. The only reason the NFL talking heads are throwing out other names is to create discussion for ratings.
With the interior line injuries, Watson injury and Hunt's departure, Brees probably has an advantage offensively. On top of that, the Saints defense has been the best in the league over the second half of the season as well so he's not as important. Honestly, he's been a pure passer version of Alex Smith. Maybe their immobility was a key reason they were forced to process defenses as quickly as they do.
