Those poor bastard lineman and the 'backer on the run blitz are scrambling around like wasps that got hit with raid - just confused as hell and scattering about blindly knowing that they're probably really fucked here.
That relatively benign play may be my favorite play of the season so far. There's literally not a single thing to critique. Just a wall to wall domination for 7 seconds. [Reply]

I wanna see that.
Hill was running a deep in.
But you bet your ass he won't always be. That play's on tape now and Pat's gonna drop back one of these days looking Kelce's way the whole time to freeze the safety, and he's putting one 60 yards downfield to Hill on the 9 route at the top of the screen.
Because Andy's playing chess, man. Always playing chess. "Well, that play went as well as any play could possibly go - how can I use that to mind-fuck opposing DC's and somehow make it go better?"

Mad wizard, that man...
Yeah, it's pretty crazy what he can do.
I know I refer to him a lot on here, but Middlekauf's pod is one of my favs right now. He was talking on 3 and 10 about how some of these coaches get branded SB winners after they win 1 and it just sticks with them. Like Harbaugh. Yeah, he's a SB winning coach. Is anyone taking him over Andy right now?
I hope Andy wins 1 for some validation. He's a really fucking good football coach. [Reply]

We'll see that again.
He'll use Sammy to hold the other safety and let Hill run to the near side pylon on a post.

Guy deserves to go down among the top 5 all time, IMO.
And yeah, I want him to win one for my own selfish reasons but also because he by God deserves that recognition and he won't get it without one. I felt that way about guys like Edmonds when he was nearing the end of his run in STL and they looked like they were losing their peak. Then they stole the '06 WS and I was so damn happy for that guy because I felt it gave him some validation.
For one game, I'm not sure there's a coach in the league I'd rather have with this personnel. I might change my answer with a different squad (gimme BB with last year's team, for instance). And for 10 years, gimme McVay.
But with this time, right now, I don't think there's any way I'd swap Andy for any other coach in the league and that includes the GOAT. So that sure seems to suggest I wouldn't swap him with any other coach to have ever BEEN in the league.... [Reply]

It's gonna happen.
But can you ever design that play banking on 8 seconds for the play to develop?
Because think of how loooooong that would take to come together. Hill's fast and can run under it, sure, but it's gonna take Watkins some time to get that safety to commit.
How you gonna pull that safety under in in under 4 seconds? Because I don't think you can realistically design a play banking on your line giving you all day to throw. [Reply]

Belicheck is just on a different level. I'm not even gonna use him to compare. Dude will be the best HC ever and I'm not sure he's not a top 5 GM in history. It's unreal.
But yeah, Andy is good. He's got his flaws for sure, but now hopefully he's got the upper hand at QB. That's a higher hill to be firing from than he's had in a while. [Reply]

If he runs a deep out, he's got the safety IMO. Plus it's Hill we're talking about.
They scored TD in LA on the CHargers on a similar throw last year. The problem with the deep ball to Hill is you have to throw it so damn soon so he doesn't outrun it.

It's crazy.
Mahomes needs to get a bit better at using his arm to get air under the ball rather than distance. That and he just needs to firm up his downfield accuracy - he misses more of those than I expected.
But I still think Jeff Blake threw the prettiest deep ball of my lifetime (Goff is closing in). He threw that thing to the moon and it just floated down to guys. Sometimes Mahomes needs to do more to give his guys time/space to adjust rather than rope one in there. He's missed a couple doing that and he has more than enough arm to give them that loft. [Reply]

Exactly. Prior success doesn’t mean it’ll get run again. It means they’ll run the next wrinkle. [Reply]
