Nzoner's Game Room>Are we worried about our offense?
mr. tegu 07:15 PM 09-15-2024
Being only marginally better than last season? Worthy likely has a higher ceiling and more potential than Hardman but he is unlikely, at least for now, to be a 6-8 target a game guy as an option on the majority of passing plays. Rice is better than Rice last season so that's good. Kelce is probably worst though.

But mostly what I’m fearful about is that losing Brown is going to be a major impediment to the offense being noticeably better than last season. He was likely big in our schemes and philosophy. I know we typically struggle vs the Bengals but as of right now I'm not sure what would make me confident we dramatically improve over last season.

What does everyone think? How can we ensure the significant improvement over last season that it seems we might need?

Yea, the LT issue is / was the main reason for problems with the offense. As bad as it was, it could have been worse, because the refs let several holding penalties slide, or didn't see them.

Corners and down the seams.

Cover 2 has been abused for years, it's not new.

Especially those hybrid 6s where you have a cover 2 on one side and cover 4 on the other.

You need time to get that guy running the drag from the Cover 4 side into the Cover 2 side to create the numbers advantage.

I'd love to get Worthy in the slot on a shallow crosser where he comes poking out the other side with ahead of steam towards the sideline. You flip that ball up there to let him run under it and then he's got the far side safety to beat up the sideline. It's a massive catch and run YAC opportunity. Especially if the far side corner gets sucked up and screws up his depth.

But you've gotta have 2-3 seconds to get him across the formation for that to work.
With the LB"s dropping as deep as Cinci had them doing, I'm not sure that's gonna work out as well.

You aren't just getting hit with cover 2 though, you are getting 2 high safeties with a CB blend of cover 2, cover 4, cover 6 and hybrid mixing of those with pattern matching concepts also.

Heard that the NFL set a record for field goals in a single week last week. And, Week 1 was third all-time in field goals.

This is a league-wide issue, not just Kansas City.

That's because if you start at the 30 you need 30 yards to be in FG range, kickers are better than ever.

Sure partly, but clearly RZ offense is a problem right now.

There's only so much stuff you can do out of a 2 high look. Cover 4 is just dropping Cb's.

Pattern match is tougher to counter, but again, it all comes down to the OL and the QB reading it out.

I agree with Pete Prisco that OL play declining badly is responsible. All the rookie QB’s are getting destroyed by bad OL play. We saw Caleb getting pressured and/or hit time and time again from a basic 4 man rush.

Burrow’s OL was not good. Mahomes LT was not good and led to errors.

OL playing in the spread and not actually pass protecting very often is stunting their development and not working on their technique.

Look at Kingsley. He’s the prime example

It's alos why I'd sign Trey Smith and keep the OL intact.

Very very few teams have the ability to deal with the issue. There's a handful of really good QB, there's probably the same for OL and the teams that have 1 don't have the other.

Defense is just banking you'll be impatient, fuck up or they'll make a play and then your drive is toast.

The NFL is running a hybrid spread, how often do we see any QB's get under center right now?

I think Caleb is responsible in a lot of ways though. Like can he check his protections properly?

I just don't think that offensive line got that much worse. I don't think Williams knows how to protect himself pre-snap.

So basically......the same as it's always been?

There's always a couple QB's and the league is the haves and the have nots.

It's more extreme now because all of the big plays are gone.
