What's the deal with Laken Tomlinson?

I feel like he's been in the league for 15 years and he's seemingly always a real nice player but bounces around every couple seasons, once got traded for a 5th rounder and never gets a contract that's nearly as good as I expect him to.

Am I just wrong and he's not very good? He always seems to be a pretty good player to me.
