Nzoner's Game Room>Andy Reid appreciation thread
Hammock Parties 10:51 PM 10-01-2018
The guy could easily have tried to pump his superstar QB by throwing on the goal line at the end of the game.

He did the smart thing and pounded it three times for the fucking win.

Word to your mother, Pete Carroll.

Oh, and he has mind control over the AFC West. 18-1 in his last 19.

If the Chiefs take care of business Sunday I want Andy Reid and the Pillsbury Doughboy holding the Lombardi next to a plate of 3 donuts.

Reid's resume is still better.

Over the 'last' 20 years of Reids career at that point, he goes to the playoffs 14 times and misses 6 (vs. 12-10 for Shula).

His playoff record is 12-14, slightly better than Shula's. Shula gets an edge in Conference Championships 2-1 but Reid had more deep runs. I think you could say, at worst, that the 'lean years' for the two guys are extremely comparable.

So then you look at the peak to find distinction and Andy's is just better. Andy already has 3 championships to Shula's 2. His 16-2 playoff record of this span is ridiculous -- Shula went 10-5 at his peak.

I mean, Reid just CLEARLY has a better case, even when you try to manipulate the data a bit.
The biggest stain on Shula is Dan Marino only reaching one Superbowl, and then getting absolutely ass raped in that Superbowl refusing to run the football at the dime defense that the 49ers were content to run as a base defense.

Marino never getting to another Superbowl is mind blowing.

The league adjusted to Marino setting the world ablaze and Shula simply didn't have an answer.

Reid, OTOH, has fundamentally redesigned this offense essentially every season to continue to find ways to attack the defenses designed specifically to stop him. This offense is night and day different than the 2018 offense and Reid's still going to SBs with it.

Had Shula even WON that Super Bowl with Marino and then never done anything from that point forward, it would've been akin to Reid beating the 49ers in SB 54 and then being mediocre for the next decade.

He's just so obviously better than Shula when you really start to mine into it a bit.

Being born in 92, Shula was out of the league when I started watching (98). But whenever his name came up on football’s Mount Rushmore, the latter part of his career (as well as Marino’s entire career) was given a lot of grace since their owner was a tightwad and a good chunk of Marino’s career came before the salary cap.

That’s not personally a defense I’d give Shula (because who else gets those kind of defenses in NFL history?) but that talking point is something I remember hearing for a long time.
