Nzoner's Game Room>*****Official 2024 Royals Season Repository Thread*****
ChiefsCountry 11:36 AM 01-01-2024

Year Two of the Matt Quatraro tenure. Time to take a step up this year. Active in free agency and trades this offseason. A new look pitching rotation and bullpen. Will the young players take the leap up offensively? Bobby Witt extension? New stadium? Will Vinny recover from injury? Salvy taking aim at the Royals record book? Will Cole Ragans turn into the best Royals starting pitcher since Greinke 1.0?

Michael Wacha, SP
Kyle Wright, SP
Hunter Renfroe, OF/DH

Regarding the White Sox, Royals and Twins are both done both them for the year. Indians have 3 games left. So at least they aren't involved down the stretch.

They were failed by a mixture of injuries, poor player development, bad decisions and some bad luck.

Since then they have an entirely new front office and a top 5 system again.

But lets be really honest here, Tim Anderson went from an exciting player to a giant pile of shit in the snap of a finger. Eloy Jimenez can't stop getting hurt, Dylan Cease really didn't take off till he got to San Diego this year.

They also screwed the pooch by paying Yasmani Grandal and it just didn't work on top of choosing not to pay Rodon.

Of all of their top prospects Luis Robert is about the only one that has been an actual hit.

Oh sure, they were always going to lose 100. 105 may have been a foregone conclusion.

But when you have 2 guys in Crochet and Fedde who were pitching their asses off for you, that alone should keep you from being historically bad.

I mean if every player you have is fairly young and still underperforming their norms, that's a manager and organization issue as well. It ain't like Robert was hurt - he was just shitty. Lopez should've had good defensive value at least - hasn't. Benintendi has a long track record of being average to slightly above - he's been one of the worst players in baseball this year at an age that he just shouldn't be. Vaughn regresed for the 2nd straight year.

The White Sox should've been bad. But they shouldn't be THIS bad. They have a more talented roster than this. I mean somthing like 60-102 should've been a reasonable floor for them. And that's BEFORE they got a breakout from Crochet and career season from Fedde.
Also Moncada doesn't even want to play for them the rest of the way I don't think

#Royals first round draft pick Jac Caglianone is headed to High-A Quad Cities this week and will make his pro debut Tuesday for the River Bandits. After a week or so in Arizona, he’s ready for affiliate ball.

Yeah, we're getting into the meat of the schedule now. Only 59 games to go.

They are 63-50, so 113 down 49 to go which makes this series matter even more. About as close to a playoff series in early August as you can get really.

Damn, I never was too good in math. 49, not 59.

Makes a lot of sense. Appreciate that.

There was no worse team of my childhood.

The 1988 Orioles now have company. The 2024 White Sox join them as the only AL teams to lose 21 in a row. pic.twitter.com/nMveYgxzlz

And that Cleveland Spiders team had an owner who also owned St. Louis in the National League. He purposedly depleted the Spiders' roster to stock St. Louis. The major leagues have had a rule since then that an owner can't own two teams.

Knowing those circumstances, the White Sox really could be the worst team ever assembled.

Their farm system, that was built for the 2020-21 playoff teams, was largely built off trades, not development either. They got Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Dane Danning from Washington for Adam Eaton. Giolito competed for a Cy Young in 2019.

They got Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease from the Cubs in a trade for Jose Quinanta and landed Michael Kopech and Yoan Moncada from the Red Sox in a deal for Chris Sale.

Their downfall was lack of depth around their top pieces, which sunk their teams in 2022 and 2023. I never believed they could develop players even during the height of the 2020-21 cycle. The way they handled Andrew Vaughn was criminal, starting him in the majors when he had minimal minor league experience. His lack of development is a reason where they are right now.

I don't agree they have a top five system right now. They have some promising arms, but their position player group is questionnable. Colson Montgomery, who is their best bet at a franchise position player, has an 83 wRC+ in Triple-A right now.
