Nzoner's Game Room>Space Exploration megathread
DaFace 09:40 AM 06-01-2014
Since a number of cool things are happening in space exploration these days, we'll widen the scope of this thread a smidge. Conversation about all things space exploration are welcome, whether it be from NASA, SpaceX, ULA, Blue Origin, or anyone else. Chances are most of the discussion will still be about SpaceX since they love to make things public and fun, but nothing's off limits. I'll eventually get around to modifying the OP to include resources for other companies too, but in the meantime, feel free to post any cool stuff you run across.

Last one for me from this launch (probably), but this one was too good to not post.

When the launch is in the evening, right after sunset, after the rocket gets up high enough, the plume of exhaust is lit up by the sun.

Not SpaceX per se, but a Soyuz flight to the ISS malfunctioned today and had to do an in-flight abort. The astronauts are safe, but that's scary as hell.

Heads up that there will be a launch tomorrow afternoon at 3:46 p.m. EST. Reused booster, landing on OCISLY, blah blah blah. They've definitely gotten to the "mundane" phase now that we're all spoiled with landings being routine.

Things should pick up after the new year. We should have the next milestone in the commercial crew program (uncrewed test flight), as well as another FH launch in Q1 sometime.

Launch today @ 1:31 Eastern.

It's also the largest single collection of spacecraft to launch in the US

Looks like we're delayed one day. They're also scheduled to launch to ISS from the east coast on Tuesday. It'll be interesting to see if they can handle a 24 hour turnaround.
