Wouldn't surprise me if a large part of him being so cheap was him being one of the loudest voices calling for Maye to start over Brissett. Plenty of reports of locker room strife in New England.

This season isn't the first time Uche has shown serious pass-rushing promise. In 2022, Uche recorded 11.5 sacks, a 19% pass rush win rate and a massive 19% pressure rate -- which is the highest by any player in any season since ESPN began tracking pressure in 2017. Of course, he has not maintained that level of play. He had pedestrian pass rush win rates of 13% and 10% in 2021 and 2023, respectively, along with just three sacks in each of those seasons. But we've seen periods of high-level play from Uche, so it's definitely possible that he can unlock it again, especially given his play in the first half of this season.

He's a weapon that very few teams can actually take full advantage of.

1. You have to have a plan for him.

2. You have to force teams into passing situations often.

He'll likely be unleashed like never before.

Just so happens my favorite team the Kansas City Chiefs have one of the best defensive coordinators and is currently 2nd best stopping the run forcing teams into passing situations.

I would argue it says A LOT more about FAU than BJ Thompson. I can’t believe anyone is throwing that out there.
Uh, no? Especially with his relatively glacial get off the line, never saw him as a 3rd down pass rush specialist. Spags seems to have settled on him being more like a jack of all trades type of DE/DT hybrid that moves around the line. Not ideal but certainly better than the outright bust some were proclaiming him to be.

Bingo.

Dude, what do you think he was drafted to be?

They showed a graphic of KCs pass rush win rates this year and Felix was second to CJ95 with 16.5% iirc.thats with his run defense being very stout.

He wins when they move him and/or run stunts and that’s where Joshua is going to impact our pass rush.

I guarantee you that Joshua will line up way out wide with FAU in a tighter alighnment and as soon as the ball is snapped, they both attack different gaps and both guys will benefit from that aspect KC hasn’t really had a speed rusher to help exploit as much as they’d like to and now they do.

Frankly he was drafted because they couldn't trade up and settled on a need pick. Now, did they hope he'd develop into that guy? Sure, I'd agree to that, but it's probably not going to happen so they've pivoted into a niche role for him where he's earning more playing time. So no, don't really think the Uche trade had much to do with FAU.

Hell, aren't they two completely different archetypes? Even if FAU developed ideally he wouldn't be a LB that could pass rush in obvious situations or leak out into coverages like Uche. He's way more of a tweener between DE/DT.

I agree that that’s why he was drafted in the first round.

I also think that if he had developed more favorably we probably don’t make this trade.

This season, Uche has 13 pressures on 96 pass rush snaps. Felix has 7 on 89.

As staylor says, this is going to be so much better of a situation for Uche. He really has the potential to explode.

Agree to disagree. I think Veach makes the trade regardless. It's such a braindead easy move to make and he gives us something we didn't have on the roster.

What a couple of phaguettes down-voting this— I’m looking at you Uchiefettybugger and Crush. Basically I’m expressing the exact same sentiment many other posters wrote in this thread. If Danna and Omenihu were healthy and playing, does this move happen? Likely not.

So for real, suck a fat baby’s d I c k. Or maybe you already have one in your mouth, so in that case, please choke.

Oh yeah. And guys like Uche can absolutely bottom out into irrelevance if not utilized correctly. Bryce Huff is a prime example of this. Luckily we have one of the greatest defensive minds in football to utilize him.

Now, if Uche hadn't gone and pissed off whoever he pissed off in the New England organization and they weren't making him a healthy scratch looking to dump him for a coke and some chips, we probably don't make the trade.
