Media Center>The new Dune 2 trailer may very well be the best trailer for a movie I've ever seen

I really liked the first installment, and the previous trailers for Dune 2 were good, but my jaw hit the floor watching this one....

They'll have some 'splaining to do there, to be sure. Because much of Pauls decision-making throughout Messiah is dependent on his relationship with Chani. His ultimate decision at the end of Messiah is about his children as much as it is the Golden Path.

That's why I say they've fundamentally undermined the story by Girl Bossing her. That relationship is massively critical to Paul and the choices he makes even as Muad'dib.

(and why I maintain that she's more important as written than you're giving her credit for. Though I'll concede that the character as filmed actually takes on diminished importance due to the choices Villeneuve made in trying to make her MORE central. That was just such a bad choice)
Maybe they won't have any time pass at all, or make it minimal. Keep Alia as a creepy fetus or creepy newborn that only Jessica can communicate with. IIRC he won't be adapting the third book, where she is one of the central characters, so developing her won't matter anyway. And also, it would distract from the Chaniverse, and God knows we can't have that.

Importing this from the estrogen fest the Oscars thread devolved into.

Have you watched the Max prophecy show? I’ve found it incredibly boring but imagine it’s much closer to the books.
I have not, nor do I have any plans to.

Herbert wrote six books. I've read three and a half of them. The first is considered to be the greatest, or one of the greatest, science fiction novels of all time. But the series did not retain that level of excellence. The following books got progressively worse, and the fourth was a miserable slog that I tried unsuccessfully to finish over the course of a couple of decades before I finally said no more. I'm told the last two are better, but I've never bothered to read either of them.

It is my understanding that Prophecy focuses on the Bene Gesserit. There were a few books penned by Herbert's son Brian and another guy based on his notes that cover events from the Dune universe in the years immediately prior to the events of the first novel and in the distant past, as well as a couple of filler novels that IIRC took place between the first/second and second/third books. Overall I enjoyed them, some more than others, but none of them come close to the brilliance of the original book. The origins of the BG are covered in one series, but outside of whatever scribbled notes Brian uncovered, the original author put nothing in print on that particular topic. So there is no real book for this show to be closer to. I assume it's basically whatever the showrunners want it to be, and whatever that is, I don't care.

As for Dune Part 2, yes, it was a well made, beautiful movie done by a guy who, up until 363 days ago, was one of my favorite directors. That's what makes his butchery so much worse. He had the tools, the talent, the budget, the cast, everything he needed to finally do justice for this great literary work. And instead he turned it into a woke fucking bitchfest.

I think they will jump in the future, because they already had a big time actress play a grown up Alia, Anya Taylor Joy. They're gonna want to put use her I bet.
