I have to assume you lose points when you have a great QB. Like if a QB is in the running for MVP, there's an assumption that the QB is doing a lot of or more heavy lifting compared to the coach behind him.
Like they'll look at Kevin Stefanski last year and praise him for getting to the playoffs with that carousel of QBs, but they won't do the same for Andy and all of the injuries he dealt with because he always had Patrick. [Reply]

That’s basically it. Andy has been so successful as a HC and especially in the Mahomes era that anything he does at this point is expected which makes COTY almost impossible for him. I mean how do you follow with what he’s already accomplished? [Reply]

I mean, start with something that's never been done before? 3-peat? But I agree, the timing of the award doesn't line up with Andy getting it. But he damn sure should! [Reply]

Context matters though. The Chiefs had 4 different guys at Left Tackle in one season, which is ridiculous. They lost their 2 best receivers for 90% of the season. They lost their starting RB for a huge chunk of season. They had to use 3 different kickers because of injury BS. None of the other teams were able to be 15-1 even with better injury situations, better LT situations, etc. [Reply]

This is why Reid would cement his legacy doing something that no coach in the SB era has done. Sadly though it won’t impact him winning COTY despite deserving it this year. [Reply]

I think we'd all agree coaches that have had long term success are the best coaches in the league. Andy, John Harbaugh, Shanahan, Tomlin, LaFleur to name a few.
But whoever decides this seems to avoid the long-term established coaches, they never get it. It's always the coach who led some no-name or retread QB to the playoffs by the skin of their teeth that gets it. Deburg nailed it, it's probably gonna be the Vikings coach flipping the script with Sam Darnold. I don't like it, just like how I don't like the MVP Award aka "QB who had the best stats this year" award. [Reply]
Andy deserves COY with the injuries this year and just grinded the team to 15-1. Dumb ass Media will probably give it to Jim Harbaugh because they made the playoffs... [Reply]
Andy definitely deserves at least a couple COY awards by now, but knowing Andy, I'm sure when he looks back on his career, he'll be plenty satisfied with having his name in the Chiefs ring of honor, a yellow blazer, a bust in Canton and a half dozen Super Bowl rings in his trophy case. [Reply]
If you dont get Andy respect, look at this bozo. Steelers had such history and league respect. Not anymore....
Tomlin says “that sucked” after Chiefs loss. You know what’s really sucked? Hearing what a great coaching job Mike is doing everywhere. And never winning jack shit in the playoffs. 7 years and counting. pic.twitter.com/1b4dIRy21b
