Searched around & only found the video fishing & BassMasters threads, i know their are plenty of outdoorsman here, so i figured it'd be cool to draw upon the Planets vast experience in all things fishing.
I only use spincast reels & fish mostly large/smallmouth bass & cats. My choice of reels is quite the source of derision from many people i know 'duffer gear', but i haul in my share of 6 pound bass & 10-20 pound cats on that gear no problem. With a little know-how you can use just about any technique you want to on 'duffer gear'.
Berkley Powerbaits are a big part of my trick bag, the difference between those & regular stuff is night & day. My best action last summer came on Mister Twister scented white curly tail grubs, on one day fishing from shore to a bridge pier, i caught smallies, bigmouths, perch & even 1 carp believe it or not... great day. But my bread & butter is a texas rigged Berkley worm, it'll wiggle through any kind of cover without getting hung up.
With cats i strictly bottom fish, no bobber & bait is just as basic... but its always in 2's to give'em a real treat... a shrimp/with a nightcrawler, liver/chunk of cheese etc. Cats are mostly for night sport to me, time to kick back a lil...
So thats me style, how do the rest of you guys get your fish on? What do you fish for, what do you use? IIRC Missouri's trout season just kicked off, anyone getting anything? [Reply]

Good luck I haven't Trout fish in long time mostly rather go to CO than here in Kansas and pay another 14.50 just to fish for fish when why wouldn't a damn fishing license be good enough? I know it would cost more out of state but IDC.

Went lake trout fishing today. I caught my first trout and only one. Weighed in at 1.27lbs. We catch and release everything so she got to live. [Reply]

Um...Yeah. my grandpa says Brown are stocked but I sure didn't see any brown on that trout. I'll upload a pic when my dad sends texts me it.

The colors all depend on the sex, time of year, environment, and diet. Where were you at? I'm probably going to rule out the possibility of a brookie.
A brown can be kind of a light yellow color with darker spots. Browns can range from this:

I grew up going to Co every year for summer camp in BSA as my dad was the Scout Master but we would stay an extra week a lot up in them mountains and trout fish and loved it.
Now I think fly fishing is an art form and I didn't get the hang of it very well but man it is exhilarating to get one to catch a fly. Power bait eggs are awesome though if fly fishing isn't something use too I think it just takes practice.
I remember going to my Aunt and Uncles in Durango Co and their house was 50 yards from the river that went through town and man oh man that was great memories for me. Just went down a path with rod and bait and was some great fishing time. So I miss going trout fishing but I'm not into it here in Kansas I want to go to Co if I'm going trout fish maybe I just don't think it's fair to have to pay extra for a trout stamp when I already pay for a fishing license. The trout stamp costs extra because the trout are more difficult to raise. Also, they generally die off in the summer (in this part of the country, special spring fed rivers or tailwaters below large dams are the exception), requiring them to be continually restocked each winter. [Reply]

I taught myself as a teenager from reading books and just going out and doing it. Don't forget that you can fly fish for anything, not just trout.
From KS youd probably head west to Colorado or southeast to south Missouri or north Arkansas. Maybe northeast OK on Lower Illinois River, but that's not really the best place. [Reply]

Hmmm I'm wanting to try different techniques this year and use crickets or things I don't normally do so that kind helps give me ideas. I didn't think about it that way. [Reply]

Fly fishing may not work WELL for, say, catfish...since they are primarily scent feeders and tend to live on the bottom. I have caught a couple of cats by accident though.
Lately, fly fishing for carp has become a big thing. [Reply]
