ChiefsCountry 11:36 AM 01-01-2024

Year Two of the Matt Quatraro tenure. Time to take a step up this year. Active in free agency and trades this offseason. A new look pitching rotation and bullpen. Will the young players take the leap up offensively? Bobby Witt extension? New stadium? Will Vinny recover from injury? Salvy taking aim at the Royals record book? Will Cole Ragans turn into the best Royals starting pitcher since Greinke 1.0?

Free Agents/Trades Acquisitions

Michael Wacha, SP
Kyle Wright, SP
Hunter Renfroe, OF/DH
Will Smith, RP

The Milwaukee Brewers are acquiring Frankie Montas from the Cincinnati Reds, a source tells ESPN.

First-place Milwaukee adds to its rotation with one of the best starters left on the trade market in an intradivision deal. @ByRobertMurray was on the news.

There are still two more days in July but this is the list of players who've had a .480 BA and .850 SLG in a calendar month with at least 90 PA: pic.twitter.com/ufgGhFQw4D

Bobby’s entering a 2018 Mahomes run where each week opposing announcers realize they’re watching greatness.

Hot take alert!

Steve Stone would rather have Bobby Witt Jr. than Shohei Ohtani on his team pic.twitter.com/HiqZVoGw2U

I don't even think it's a hot take if Ohtani can't or won't pitch

Ryan Yarbrough DFA'd, worth a claim...?

Yarbrough was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Monday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Advice: Yarbrough will be placed on waivers and if he goes unclaimed, he'll either report to Triple-A Oklahoma City or elect free agency. He is the odd man out on the major-league roster after the team acquired infielder Amed Rosario from the Rays via trade Monday. Yarbrough has produced a respectable 3.74 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 39 strikeouts over 67.1 innings in 32 appearances with Los Angeles this season

That was a big hit. After a couple of disappointing series, Witt did what stars do. Picked up the entire team and took them to victory.

Post game, I slept well.

BWJ is so damn humble and quiet it’s incredible. He’s not cocky, doesn’t bat flip, doesn’t do anything over the top, just keeps his head down and plays ball. Very lucky to have him on our team….. obviously. But the intangibles are amazing. He even supports his teammates at every chance he gets.

Our dude is 44/88 over the last 30 days. For those of you bad at math, that's a .500 average.

Vinny and Garcia have a .270 BAPIP. Both of them.

Very reasonable to think they will be better end of the year.

Bobby has a .378 bapip lol

I have begun to sour a bit on bapip though to try to weed out flukey starts or lack thereof because some guys just always have a high bapip...like Alex Gordon.

There's so much that goes into BABIP.

How much contact do you make?
How hard is that contact. on average?
Are you fast enough to beat out a lot of IF grounders?
Are you hitting lots of line drives?

If you can run like the wind, you hit the ball hard (and consistently hit it hard), you control the strike zone, and you hit a lot of line drives, like Bobby Witt, BABIP is generally going to be higher than average.
