Who's ready for rookie mini-camp?

Kansas City Chiefs announce dates for rookie mini-camp

On Wednesday, the NFL announced the official dates for all minicamps, both the mandatory one for all players and the rookie minicam that each team holds for their latest draft picks and undrafted free agents or those invited to try out.

For the Kansas City Chiefs, the rookie minicamp will be held on May 6-8, this coming weekend, and will be the first official team activities for Patrick Mahomes, the team’s first round pick and young quarterback sensation. All players will be forced to report to the team on June 13-15 for mandatory minicamp, and it will be then that the team will learn of any player who is unhappy with his pay and is planning to hold out.

For now the Chiefs are still in offseason activity mode with ongoing training and conditioning sessions, but these are all voluntary activities. In the weekends leading up to the mandatory minicamp, voluntary OTAs will continue to take place on three consecutive weekends — from May 23-25, May 30-June 1, and June 6-9. The mandatory minicamp will cap all of the Chiefs spring/summer activities until training camp officially opens in August.

Fans should expect to see further player movement in terms of rookie free agents invited to minicamp as well as potential deals being reached with rookies and veterans alike as teams form their 90-man rosters.

So, as it turns out, half the league wanted our QB. That's sweet.

Chiefs/Titans preseason game 4 will have a higher attendance than 50% of their home games this year.

Reid better give Mahomes snaps with the starters. He has nothing to lose.

Texans definitely reached on Watson. We know the Browns didn't want him or they wouldn't have traded away the #12 pick and we know the Saints didn't want him since they had their chance and passed on him. Cardinals wanted Mahomes but I don't think they were going to take Watson even if he was still there. Texans probably could have stayed put in the 20's and got him.

The last time I can think of that this much interest around a player was reported after the draft, it was for Derek Carr. But that was in the 2nd round and everyone had already had a chance to take him.

That was my kid's QB #. Called him Prime.

While it is very exciting that so many teams wanted Mahomes, we should not be surprised.

He is raw, for sure, but he is far and away the most talented QB in this draft and he has the highest upside. His ceiling is higher than most any other QBs have had coming out. You've got highly respected coaches out there who could see that and wanted to see what they could get out of him.

I don't get the Favre comparison. Yeah he's got a big arm like him, but he's more coachable than Favre. I see some of Rodgers game in there, but I'm sticking with Derek Carr.

-Almost exactly the same body type from height, weight, and body build even down to hand size.
-Same athleticism from the combine
-Same elite level arm talent.
-both grew up around a professional player in the family
-both can throw well outside the pocket
-spread offense/shotgun college system
-played bad competition (poor defenses) in conference

I feel better now after being sad we passed on Carr for so long. Fortunately for Pat, he has elite level coaching to develop him.

Did you know Favre is only 6'2" 222?

Date of birth: October 10, 1969 (age 47)
Place of birth: Gulfport, Mississippi
Height: 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m)
Weight: 222 lb (101 kg)

Thought he was taller/bigger than that...
