If he does retire then they will likely settle and it’s in their best interest to clean their cap up quickly. They’re not winning playoff games if they’re spending the next few years paying off $100m to a qb who isn’t there (maybe much more). If that’s the case then their best interest is to frontload the hell out of that payout, pay it off quickly, and knowing you can’t compete just stockpile as many picks as you can. A piece like tyreek is especially less useful when all he can do is help you win games when you’re rebuilding but will be too old to help once you’re built [Reply]

It is one of our biggest dead money years when you consider we basically overpaid clark so we could at least get some small use out of him
I’d say the exit of mathieu, hill, Sorensen, hitchens, Demarcus, Darrel Williams was one of our biggest FA cleanups in the Reid era
There’s no way you can call this anything but a reset season. It wasn’t a year of letting a few people go, it was a one year effort to shed a loooot of dead weight and stockpile young talent. Yeah we still won a Super Bowl which proves my point that we can rebuild fast and quick. It will be a very very different rebuild this time with an older mahomes, with a mahomes contract we can’t as easily maneuver around and with two hall of fame core veterans no longer as the anchors.
They let Mathieu walk, signed Justin Reid. Let Hitchens walk, had draft picks behind him. Let Hill and Demarcus walk and traded away, signed MVS and JJSS.
They got the comp pick because of a coach being hired elsewhere IIRC. They didn't get comp picks from letting guys walk. The Extra draft picks were all from the Hill trade. [Reply]

You stockpile talent now then in a few years, rip the bandaid off quickly with a reset season where we clean our cap and stockpile picks. If we ever want to seriously keep the window open that reset needs to happen anyway because it’s the best way to quickly accumulate young talent to keep the window open. It is also a great way to pivot to a new offensive identity around an older mahomes
We have a good enough front office, qb, coach who can do that quickly and with limited pain. We did it just a few years ago and ended up winning a Super Bowl.
I'm fine with spending the next 5 years band-aiding our roster and winning most of the super bowls, personally, but that's just me.
Every year since Hill left, you throw fits about how we MUST do this, or MUST do that, or we're RUINING MAHOMES or whatever, and we win the Super Bowl.
Every year.
I don't care about the threepeat any more than any other year that Mahomes suits up. What I want is TEN Super Bowl wins. TEN. Because fuck Brady. That's what I want.
I'll send a mid round pick or something, but I'm not doing it to take on a huge contract that fucks us next year. No how, no way.
We're already much better off than we were at this point last year. There's no reason for panic moves, and there's no reason to become the Rams and 'fuck those picks' our way to a Super Bowl. [Reply]

How has Tyreek looked the past few weeks with Tua out? A Ferrari at wide receiver isn't much good if you dont have a capable driver. Also, franchise QBs dont grow on trees. A stud QB just going to fall in the Dolphins lap?
If, and that is IF, Tua is done, they'd be smart to tank. Get as high in the draft order as possible, clean up your cap, unload as many older/expensive players as possible that have trade value that aren't in your plans 2-3 years down the road. Acquire as many draft picks as possible. Get younger. Rebuild. [Reply]

They won't win 10. There's just too many variables.
If you can win 3 in a row, something that's never been done, that would help Pat alot in the stuff when his career is over and comparing to Brady. [Reply]

I threw a fit one year. Last year. And I was right. We won a Super Bowl but I wasn’t wrong that we made a bad decision in how we handled the WR room. Because they were an outright disaster aside from rashee (a move I supported). I praised our front office in 2022 when we gutted WRs while everyone else complained and I’ve praised our front office for the 2024 moves at WR. I have not demanded anything of this years front office other than saying it would be nice to make a trade knowing we got thrown a huge curve ball. I have not insisted on it and wouldn’t even be mad (although disappointed) if we didn’t. My argument is with people like you who insist up and down that this isn’t hurting us and don’t want to even try to fix it (even though you’ve admitted we should probably get wr help). Or that this is more of a mahomes issue versus getting him some weapons.
The reason we won our first Super Bowl is because we went balls to the wall in buying players to help us win. When our cap got crunched we fixed that shit in one offseason. So this panic that losing a single draft pick or paying a little extra to push us over the top is going to lead to some death spiral is misplaced. When it comes time in a few years, we can and will reset and it will be quick and painless like it was in 2022. It is a path we should take even if we play it conservative like you want. We have room to be aggressive knowing we have a wide wide open window today with a clear hole we’d like to fix. [Reply]

I’ve seen several of his games and it is largely a qb issue. Tua was flat out bad and his backups are pretty much unplayable as QBs.
Overall he seems a tad less explosive and they’re pulling him on lots of snaps which makes me feel like they’re load managing. But he’s still a dynamic WR. [Reply]

Miami could acquire a competent backup journeyman and they'd be a better team for it. They're probably a playoff team with a Joe Flacco or Carson Wentz at QB with the weapons they have. [Reply]

Fair point about poles. But it was still a massive overhaul. Losing tyreek, ward, mathieu and even hitchens, Jarran reed and Sorensen… this was our boldest offseason of cuts. That isn’t even factoring in that we restructured Frank clark so we can eat his dead money in 2 years instead of one. A miraculous save by veach.
To your question about 2022, what made us successful despite that? Having prime hall of fame GOAT level players like mahomes, kelce and jones helps. One of them playing on a mind blowingly cheap contract. Having an almost unblemished run on defensive players in the draft and right DC right time helps. It helps that we were only weighed down by a very friendly future mahomes contract and not a previous one too. But mostly it was having lots and lots of picks who contributed right away. Our future success came because unlike buffalo or the chargers we cut our losses at the right time and we had a clean cap.
Our next rebuild won’t include kelce and jones or even a peak version of mahomes. Our best way out is when the time is right, stockpile lots and lots of picks. And that comes with major sacrifice. So on the one hand, the next rebuild will be harder. On the other hand despite your concern about spending draft capital and dollars, did Orlando brown or Frank clark or mathieu send us in a death spiral? No. If we make bold moves today we will bounce back quickly. [Reply]

The teams that have to cut veterans on bloated contracts, signed bad contracts. When was the last player the Chiefs really had to do that on in order to be cap compliant that they weren't going to cut anyway?
BV is tough to get a second contract out of unless you are the guy [Reply]
