Scranton police charged a 26-year-old city woman Monday on charges she had sex, and purportedly a child, with a 16-year-old boy, authorities said.
Sheri M. Knowles, 813 Lee Court, is charged with one count of indecent assault, a misdemeanor, and is free on $25,000 unsecured bail following her arraignment Monday in front of Magisterial District Judge Paul J. Ware.
Police began investigating in January when a witness saw her have sex with a teenager, Detective Jeffrey Gilroy wrote in a criminal complaint.
The investigation is still ongoing, but Ms. Knowles agreed prior to her arrest to plead guilty to one count of indecent assault, Detective Gilroy said in an email.
The Times-Tribune does not identify victims of sexual assault.
In April, the 16-year-old victim agreed to cooperate and told authorities he and Ms. Knowles have had sex since November 2014, and may have a child together.
Detectives also looked through the teenager’s cellphone and found pictures of him holding an infant and of him kissing Ms. Knowles, police said.
Ms. Knowles waived her right to a preliminary hearing Monday after her arraignment. A formal arraignment in the Lackawan*na County Court is scheduled for Aug. 5 at 9 a.m.

Good for him (minus the baby of course), but it just doesn't have the same effect for me when I know she wasn't a teacher.
On a side note, I am curious how the court would rule if she wanted him to pay child support for the baby at this point. Judges usually tend to go with the best interest of the child, as they should, and wouldn't it be in the best interest of the child for him to pay child support once he is old enough. It isn't like he can sue the mom to pay his child support to help the kid. Now if he and his family wanted custody of the child that would be a different situation. [Reply]
Teacher Invited 2 Students to Her Home for Sex: Cops
Inside Edition,Inside Edition 21 hours ago .
A substitute teacher was arrested last week after police say she had sexual encounters with students she invited to her Georgia home.
While Cherokee County Sheriff's Office officials said the students were at the age of consent for the state, it was 38-year-old Laura Rich's position of authority that makes her alleged deeds a crime.

Rich is accused of starting a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old shortly after she began substitute teaching in early 2015, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jay Baker said.
Rich is accused of having sex with an 18-year-old months later.
The Cherokee County School District notified police about the allegations.
"Our detectives conducted an investigation and determined that Rich had sex with a 16-year-old student in early 2015 and then had sex with an 18-year-old student in late 2015. The encounters occurred at her former home in Acworth," Baker said in a statement.
In a statement, the school district said Rich's last day as a substitute was August 19.

LAURELDALE, Pa. (WPVI) -- A former Berks County teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student.
Stephanie Luckey, 37, surrendered to authorities Tuesday. She is charged with unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors.
Luckey worked as an English teacher at Muhlenberg High School at the time of the incidents, the district attorney's office said.
Police say she created a private Twitter account so that she could communicate directly with the student.
The conversations, detectives said, evolved to become sexual in nature, with Luckey sending him as many as 10 partially nude and nude photos of herself.
Luckey, detectives said, also sent the student a sexually explicit video of herself. The student also told investigators that he and Luckey would kiss in her classroom after school.
Officials from the Berks County DAs office say cases like these, involving an educator, are always that much more disturbing.
"When it does happen and it happens more than once it is disappointing because it besmirches an honorable profession," said Berks County Chief Deputy D.A. Jonathan Kurland.
One of Luckey's former students says she was actually a very good teacher.
"She always helped out with anything you needed. If you had a question she was always right there to help," said Daniel Breiding.
Other students we spoke with are still having a hard time comprehending the story.
"I think it's a little gross and, awkward, that a teacher would do that," said Austin Broad.
"It's kind of stupid, shouldn't have done it. Everybody kind of thinks that," said Dylan Yob.
Authorities first learned about this case after an anonymous caller contacted the Berks County tip line this past June.
Luckey resigned a few weeks later, but superintendent Dr. Joseph Macharola said, either way, it was just a matter of time before she was fired.
"There is absolutely no place in public education or any organization where the employee's trust and integrity is compromised by deplorable judgement while engaging with children or young adults. We will not tolerate such predatory contact," Macharola said.
