Searched around & only found the video fishing & BassMasters threads, i know their are plenty of outdoorsman here, so i figured it'd be cool to draw upon the Planets vast experience in all things fishing.
I only use spincast reels & fish mostly large/smallmouth bass & cats. My choice of reels is quite the source of derision from many people i know 'duffer gear', but i haul in my share of 6 pound bass & 10-20 pound cats on that gear no problem. With a little know-how you can use just about any technique you want to on 'duffer gear'.
Berkley Powerbaits are a big part of my trick bag, the difference between those & regular stuff is night & day. My best action last summer came on Mister Twister scented white curly tail grubs, on one day fishing from shore to a bridge pier, i caught smallies, bigmouths, perch & even 1 carp believe it or not... great day. But my bread & butter is a texas rigged Berkley worm, it'll wiggle through any kind of cover without getting hung up.
With cats i strictly bottom fish, no bobber & bait is just as basic... but its always in 2's to give'em a real treat... a shrimp/with a nightcrawler, liver/chunk of cheese etc. Cats are mostly for night sport to me, time to kick back a lil...
So thats me style, how do the rest of you guys get your fish on? What do you fish for, what do you use? IIRC Missouri's trout season just kicked off, anyone getting anything? [Reply]

Drum are underrated fighters, very powerful, I've gotten several out of the Illinois river. Have you eaten drum before? I ask because someone told me they're kinda bony and oily so I've never kept one
Which lake?
I procrastinated to clean my fish all day but I got er done. I cut a piece of each of the three I kept drum, wiper bass and channel cat to sample. I'm saving the fish for later when I can get some charcoal or more time to do them right.
And the winner of my sample taste test was the drum mmmmmmm yum
I liked both the cat and bass about the same but what made the drum superior was it didn't have that gamey taste to it like the other two did.
The cleaning of the drum really wasn't that bad at all if you have a scraper and scrape off the scales first. That was my first drum. The bass was easy I didn't mind cleaning that at all and the cat wasn't as bad of cleaning it as I thought it would be but I'm never a fan of cleaning cat fish.
I'm sold on the drum I want to catch more of them .
(and your right Easy6 I should have kept the other 4 cats once I started cleaning these I got on a roll. I just dreaded cleaning all of them lol) [Reply]

Turned a 3 day weekend into 4 with a vacation day, and an overnighter is in the works for new river adventures tomorrow night, gonna pound the backroads in some new territory looking for overlooked spots along the Illinois and will fish for drum
Your adventurous spirit has guilted me into a genuine excursion, first of the year [Reply]

Kick ass out there good luck.
I got to go to work 3am sucks to be me.
Next weekend I will have a three day weekend but I got to figure out what my game plan is. That first night with storms and 60+ mph winds made me have to rework everything I wanted to do and didn't get to do it all.
I love night fishing but my problem is I don't sleep much during the day because I'm fishing and want soak up all I can while I'm out there. Too short of a time going fishing and not enough time to make it out there all the time like I'd like. [Reply]
What a fishing day. My dad and I hit the water about 7am and fished until 1230. It was a long fishing day with many casts in between fish. But each fish we caught was a solid fish. We ended the day with:
1. Largemouth at 3.75lb
2. Largemouth at 3.5lb
3. Hybrid striper at 2.75lb
4. Saugeye at 2.5lb
5. Large mouth at 1.5lb
6-9 all keeper saugeye from 1-2lb
The water was so clear and no wind. My lure was close enough to see one of those saugeye hit my lure twice and it continued to follow. I stopped retrieve and watched as two saugeye went after it. Nailed it right in front of the boat. [Reply]
Tried to post a pic...but anyway...the bass are still on.. Last night was a hoot though. I had some old Slugo's left over from back in my Tourny fishing days. Had a never opened package of shad color 6 inch. Took then to the pond and rigged them wacky style with a Oring in middle and a weedless wacky hook. They fall way slower than the Wacky worms do and more irregular. I was in my Fishing Kayak and had a kick ass time with a medium action spinning rod. Two really nice 6 plus pounders (post spawn females feeding pretty active) and a buttload of 12-16 inch fish. [Reply]

Nice job. I think anything over 5lbs is really good. I just got back from this weekends extrusion lol I don't know what to think about it. Was fun but I got issues for weekend fishing. I much rather go during the week.
Thing was people were hot and heavy to catch Walleye on Lake Wilson down by the rivers end (beginning?) It's where you don't have to pay but there is no bathrooms but I love that area and I stay all night. Problem was first thing in the morning here comes all these boats. These mother fuckers did not care about my little bank spot fishing that & throw their line in same spot as my lines are thrown. Mother fuck you.
I did catch me a Walleye about 3am the other night he was huge as I could tell but when he got close enough to grab he did a barrel role and that twisted my line enough to make him break my line and I just missed from being grab ahold of him that he couldn't get away :-) I think he would have been one of my best fish ever too.
I ended up with only three for the weekend a nice size drum a channel cat and a Blue Channel Cat beast but not as beastly as the one I caught two years ago. I call him beast because blue cats are just mussel toned like WWE steroid super stars. lol I didn't catch a bunch of fish but these were nice I had other issues with people at the lake that annoyed the hell out of me so next time I get a weekend I'm going find other spots and have new strategy cuz I had to pack and move three times because people up in my space. Sounds like quite the day, and yep... wacky rigs are underrated
And Tat, I hear you about people crowding you out. It didnt used to be that way around here, but has become a real problem the last 6-7 years... people in general have become extremely disrespectful [Reply]
Headed out to go do an overnight float on the Buffalo River in northern Arkansas. Beautiful river, very clean and tons of Smallmouth. And, by going on a Sunday and coming back on Monday there shouldn't be a lot of other people.
By late afternoon I should be eating a shore lunch of fresh smallies and fried potatoes and onions. Hopefully I'll have some decent pics to post. [Reply]

I knew this shit was going to be a pain in the Fn ass. I can't get anything to upload to photo bucket from my phone, nor will it allow me to even attach them to a post in when I go advanced. I have them on my drive and in my phone. Any suggestions? [Reply]

Wish I could help, but I am decidedly non-tech savvy [Reply]
