His anticipation of the onrushing defender, stopping the footwork to half-plant before releasing the ball, and then executing that pass makes the defender graze/miss him.
The rusher is going in low at full speed and then has to put on the brakes to raise his arms up and try to block the pass.
That's just some wicked-intense shit for a first year starter. 9 other QB's absolutely fold on that play.

It's just damn cool when you watch route combinations and how they're supposed to work/do work.
Guys aren't always just running routes to get open. So much of it is to pull guys a step this way or get them turned this other way. BossChief and I sat and watched Manning do it on that Sunday night in 13 and it's just fun to see. [Reply]
