Yes they do. I think the one that gets me the most is a dog with an embedded collar. I want to stomp someones ass when I see anything like that. I mean a person has to sit there and watch it happen day by day without doing anything about it.

Yeah, the collar we got was tough enough. She's been shocked once accidentally, and that made me feel bad enough. The vibrate and tone work just fine for off-leash training...

And like I told my down the street neighbor who though shocking them was NBD, he should try it (and I knew he had), and when he said OK, I said "around the neck"! He declined!

Honestly, if I saw somebody who did that to a dog, I don't know if I could stop myself from beating them to death. I'm getting old, but I'd sure try!

The guy who was my boss here at work retired about thee years ago and passed away last Friday. He lived alone, and has a cat named Cosmo. A lady I worked with here who left about two years ago drove all the way up from Tulsa to adopt Cosmo. I thought that was pretty cool. Otherwise Cosmo was headed to the Pet Shelter.

Cross-posting from another thread (from 2008...shit I got old).

Poor old Rommel is giving up the ghost on me. We figured last spring that he probably had one more winter in him because he's just aged so much faster than his brother. I always said I wanted 12 healthy years from my labs and that's pretty much exactly what I got; he turned 12 in October and was still as willing as ever to run and play; just couldn't do it as long.

In December he started panting pretty hard and by January he picked up a cough. We took him to the University vet, had some abdominal scans and ultrasounds - no luck. Best they can tell is that he's aspirating likely on account of laryngeal paralysis. They were surprised that his gait was still good because it can be a sign of neurological breakdown. Sadly, over the last month or so his hind legs have started to fade as well so it sure has the look of just a gradual neurological fade. Fortunately he's learned to change how he drinks and I don't think he's stressed out by the 'newness' of the cough so by staying calmer, he's pretty much self-regulating it; I hear him hack maybe once or twice a day now (as opposed to hourly when it first surfaced).

Doesn't seem to be hurting, still a happy old lab. But things are slow-going for him and he mostly just hangs out with us on the couch now. All told, it's what we expected and probably not a bad way to go but it still kinda sucks. I'm hoping he can get some nice spring days on the screened in porch before we have to make the call but summer may be tough on him with the heat and the breathing issues.

Been a good run...

That's tough man. I have always struggled with when is the right time to make the call. I have a pretty selfish streak in me that wants to keep them around as long as possible, but in the end if you know they aren't living a quality existence that's even harder than letting them go.

That sucks, man.

We've got a 11 year old lab beagle mix that is getting up there. She's blind in one eye and has a heart murmur. She pretty much likes to be left alone for the most part, so I'm dreading the day that I wake up in the morning and find her done in the living room.

My chocolate lab is 9.

Barkley still goes ok, but he's had hip dysplasIA since he was little. We had 1 hip replaced at the vet school at MU when he was 2.

Sadly, he's slowing down.

She's a cutie. I'd just like to post this here for your consideration.

HELP WANTED. For a friend
Who goes by the code name of Dodger.
Mans best friend for life, a virgin in strife
I'd like to find him some bitches to Rodger.

A boarder collie he might be of mix
no papers to certify his breed
but a playdate with your she-dog
will take care of his needs.

Dodger won't care if she's short, fat or bald
or if her pedigree is top billing
as long as her tail is up
and her back side he's drilling.
