Nzoner's Game Room>Are we worried about our offense?
mr. tegu 07:15 PM 09-15-2024
Being only marginally better than last season? Worthy likely has a higher ceiling and more potential than Hardman but he is unlikely, at least for now, to be a 6-8 target a game guy as an option on the majority of passing plays. Rice is better than Rice last season so that's good. Kelce is probably worst though.

But mostly what I’m fearful about is that losing Brown is going to be a major impediment to the offense being noticeably better than last season. He was likely big in our schemes and philosophy. I know we typically struggle vs the Bengals but as of right now I'm not sure what would make me confident we dramatically improve over last season.

What does everyone think? How can we ensure the significant improvement over last season that it seems we might need?

What about those quick hitters over the middle with Rice that worked so well against Baltimore?

That was barely used yesterday.

losing a starting WR and RB for the season after only two games is a great recipe for worry, yes

Worried? It's hard to be truly worry about anything in the regular season sans major injuries (Brown and Pacheco, sigh...)

But on paper, w/o those two guys in the lineup, it's hard to argue we've gotten better.

Outside of Houston, you can argue very few AFC contenders got better. The Chiefs were supposed to be better but injuries can change things. Keep in mind that other teams will have injuries also. It's indeed a battle of attrition and the Chiefs have been relatively healthy during their Super Bowls runs.

I've never been convinced since Nagy took over. Feel like compared with the 22 offense which had largely the same skill players it has not been good.

The offense blows. The tackles are worse than last year. No RB now. No WR 2. Travis has been partying and chilling with his girl all off season that he’s now fat and slow. You can tell he has no muscle definition in his arms and he hasn’t practiced or maintained his lateral mobility. Don’t give me that crap that he’s old. He only 6 months removed from the SB. He got lazy. Prayers to the Chiefs

He is old and also giving it all you got in the SB is way different than week 2, I guarantee you they are telling him to take it easy until we get to the games that actually matter.

This one was all on Mahomes staring down. It’s 1st down dude. Kelce is doubled. Just take the fucking checkdown to Pacheco. It’s a free 5 yard gain.

Also the corner routes are free. Watson is a great corner route runner and had space up top.

Rough INT by the Chiefs that seemed to instill doubt in the offense but it never shoulda happened.

Let's move past the backside RB in the flat - which is viable - and just look at the front side Corner vs C2/Tampa, one of the coverages it should thrive against. pic.twitter.com/wp1gOquVHA

That isn't even complicated that is basic Tampa 2, it's like he forgot the LB was going to be in that zone.

Okay, this makes me feel a tad better. Seems like Pat just forced the ball to Travis (maybe just wanted to get his best friend involved?) and got picked. It's not like there wasn't anyone else open. Same thing with Worthy. It felt like he was forcing the issue a few times between Travis and Worthy and got picked. That's not a hard thing to clean up, certainly a lot easier to deal with than the group of WRs we had last season that just couldn't get open.

The Worthy one looked like he didn't step into the ball which could be traced to him not trusting the OT.

Worthy wasn't open. Mahomes saw Worthy vs Taylor-Britt one on one and went for it to prove a point and it backfired.

Feel like it’s always a thing to credit Reid when things go well and discredit the oc when it doesn’t. In the end all things go through Andy and if Nagy was a disaster Reid would quietly steal more control back. Andy is still an offense mastermind so it’s gotta be personnel and execution. While we have largely the same skill players, even if Donovan smith and Mvs weren’t very good, we went from a veteran to a rookie. And I think that about sums up where we’ve regressed from last season. Add in that a lot of offenses are struggling right now. Before Tua got his brain mushed in, the dolphins issues dealing with 2 deep seemed remarkably similar (though a lot worse) than what we experienced a few years ago… also with tyreek

I didn't see that, or don't remember that. However, Pat didn't throw many, if any, passes over his shoulder yesterday; most of his passes, including that one, he threw with some kind of 3/4 arm slot and produced a pretty flat arc. Which gave KJ a better shot at catching the ball than Worthy. It was the trajectory of the pass that I questioned at the time. When I saw a replay this morning on ESPN, I questioned the decision; Worthy had zero separation, and Pat shouldn't have thrown the ball to Worthy there.

Now, I get it, Pat throws a lot of flat balls, it's just a Mahomes' thing. And maybe you're right and his protection made him throw the ball like that. Either way, it was a mistake. But those kinds of mistakes I'm certain he'll fix, so whatever.

It is somewhat concerning that KJ locked Worthy up that easily. Did exactly what he said he would do, just put his hands on him and slowed him right down. But Worthy is a rook, so hopefully he'll improve vs. press man.

I do think that a big part of the issue is that it was probably supposed to be Brown running that route, and not a rook in his second NFL game ever. Kind of got thrown into the deep end yesterday, and it showed.

However, everything I've read says Worthy is an intelligent football player, so I expect he'll improve with more reps. But he is simply a smaller, slighter guy, and bigger and/or more physical DBs probably will be a problem for him for the foreseeble future.
