Oh I agree. Not pointing the finger at Jackson, just at studios that are willing to destroy IP for a possible quick buck.

Does anyone else find themselves rooting for Sauron a bit in this? He’s evil as hell but has become a pretty well developed villain.

Also, I still don’t see much season to hate this show. The Harfoot/Stranger stuff always drags (and I think the showrunners have even recognized that in S2) but the Numenor and Sauron/Celebrimbor storylines work well.

The harfoot/stranger stuff is terrible imo. I'm two episodes behind though.

Gtfooh with this shit.

Grand-Elf.

This was a boring ass finale. Last episode was good, but this one just sucked.

There are too many story lines going on in this for an 8 episode season.

Rings of Power Season 2 had what 7 different story lines going?

Galadriel
Durin and the dwarves
Sauron and Celebrimbor
Free Men
Numenor
Grand-Elf or Gandalf and harfoots
Adar

Seven storylines to fledge out and develop, but only 8 hours of show time to do it. It's just way too many.

This should have been eight 1 1/2 or 2-hour shows.

Either make it 15-20 episodes per season or give it to Peter Jackson and let him make a trilogy of it properly, one or the other, because this format isn't it.

I finally finished the 2nd season. What a weird mess. They fucked up Tolkien's story something fierce. Just shit all over the storyline with no care for the cannon. Like the big baddie in the final episode? That wasn't supposed to occur in the timeline until over 3 generations later. Which just completely unravels the history. The Stranger shouldn't even be part of this Age at all. Elrond is over here making out with his eventual mother in law. Orc families. Tom Bombadil - Wizard Coach. And it goes on and on.

All that money, and this is it?

It's....not great.

I'm watching it with the thought of this is just an adaptation of Tolkien's works while using the same characters and roughly the same outline. It's too jarring trying to watch it knowing the characters are out of character (and times, in some cases), and the entire story covering the creation of the rings is just completely fucked.

It's like Bezos came off a four day coke bender, threw a billion dollars at Amazon Prime productions, and told them to make a Lord of the Rings story, but in THIS PARTICULAR way that he had a fever dream about. Think of it as the Superman movie that was supposed to have Nic Cage star in it if they had actually made it.

Durin going after Durin's Bane was pretty badass, though.

Them not following lore doesn't really bother me. It's just that the story is shit lol. It's a jumbled god damn mess that doesn't give enough time to any of the storylines, because there are so many.

Good finale. Overall, S2 was improved from S1 and I think that was mostly because the showrunners identified what was working (Sauron/Celebrimbor and Numenor/the rise of Ar-Pharazon) and what wasn’t (anything Gandalf and the Harfoots were doing).

They’ve had a problem from the beginning about exactly what to do with Gandalf (other than giving hints about and finally revealing his identity) and I don’t think they’ve ever figured it out (likely because he’s not recorded as being around in the Second Age and can’t interact with the Elronds, Saurons and Galadrials of the world).

I think they would be best served in removing him from the show at this point for S3 (instead of feuding with someone I can only assume is Saruman). There should be more than enough story here with the other characters to carry them in the lead up to the fall of Numenor and the War of the Last Alliance.
