Aaron Rodgers was pretty much universally beloved around the league until about 2018. Maybe a couple years earlier, but probably not.
Nothing stuck to the guy. He was "The Face of the League" for damn near a decade and nobody had a bad word to say about the guy.
Dude was drafted the same year as Derrick Johnson - he's been around FOREVER. Aaron Rodgers: Douchebag is a relatively recent development for a guy that's been in the league for 20 years now.

Yeah, count me firmly in the camp that has no idea where the Rodgers comparison is even coming from.
For one thing, Rodgers is just a fucking weird dude. There have been plenty of athletes and celebrities that got too big for their britches and there ain't many that ended up like him.
Another thing is Rodgers had a pretty substantial amount of his career wasted by substandard coaching. Mike McCarthey is not Andy Reid. And when he DID get competent coaching with LaFleur and went back to back MVPs, he sperged the fuck out and roundly rejected it, leaving for New York and tanking their franchise even further. [Reply]

So lets say 2017. Guy was 34 years old by then. He'd been a starter for about 10 years. I mean that's a fair bit of runway still in front of Patrick. And when Rodgers was 27 with an MVP award and a SB title, nobody saw this stuff coming from him.
It just happened over time.

Of course the coaching thing is legit - that would absolutely be a part of it. Maybe galaxy brain stuff from me in that I'm also considering the probability that around the time he's in his early/mid 30s, he's probably looking at a new coaching staff as well.

I don't think Rodgers was always destined to be a fucking nut. But man, how many famous folks with seemingly good heads on their shoulders had their cheese slip off their cracker when they got told how great they were for a decade.
