Not sure I'm gonna be able to give a damn about the Beth/Rip spinoff after watching this show go out with a whimper
Sheridans arrogance is killing everything he does
Truthfully I think the point was that the Duttons didn't WANT more than that.
I mean they sold the place for $1.25 million, right? Had they asked for $10 million, hell $100 million, Rainwater probably says yes. I mean it's probably a $5+ BILLION dollar property.
Kaycee could've called his shot. He got what he asked for because that's all he wanted.
I mean anybody that's run a shop of any sort can tell you that sometimes you really just wanna downsize and take care of yourself and your family. You don't need to conquer the world - just set yourself up nicely for the next few decades.
Kaycee got that. His 'paltry' 5,000 or whatever acres will do him just fine.
The only thing that doesn't make a ton of sense to me is the idea that they simply had no estate tax protections in place to remove the bulk of the assets directly from under John. That's the FIRST thing they'd have done after his cancer stuff in season 2.
But it is what it is. Like I said, at a point you really do need to shut your brain off a bit with this show (and just about any show like it).

Ah ok, was in my cups a bit while watching and somehow missed the fact that he got 5000 acres... that seems fair enough

Yeah, Kaycee kept 5,000 acres and the house at East Camp:
He's gonna be alright.
